Apparently (saw the incident, but couldn't tell if it was actually Cisse he was attacking) Tiote tried to punch Cisse... I say tried, because if he'd have connected, the groundsman would have to have swept Cisse's atoms up...

Not good.

this doesnt look good for sundays game against the mackems, one of our most important players swinging a punch at another one.we all love tiote but he needs to control himself more.the mackems will try to get him sent off especially after what happened last season.

Did he definitely swing for him? If so I think he should be fined by the club and possibly even transfer listed. I'm not sure why but ever since his first season with us (where he looked an absolute world beater) I've gradually lost faith in him game by game. His control of his temper on the pitch is getting worse, his passing hasn't improved (Ba's goal aside), he clocks up yellow cards for fun, always has niggling injuries and he's even started hanging on to the ball in dangerous positions instead of playing it simple.

I give Williamson a lot of stick (to be fair the bloke is awful), but the truth is Tiote hasn't offered the back four as much protection as he should/can. If he can get back to the form he showed in his first year we have a genuinely world class player, but if he doesn't show that form in the next 5-10 games I'd consider playing Bigi for a bit, could be that Tiote feels he's an automatic starter (which he is at the moment) and has got complacent because of this.

that's you at 100 now mate... Well done.

Cheers mate<cheers> never know might make it to 1000 post some day haha

Stopped watching the game last night at 1-0 so i'm very confused by all of this , looked around this morning for highlights but didnt see Tiote swinging at anyone but hope its not Cisse because that could really disrupt our morale in the dressing room.

Nah, I don't think he should be transfer listed. Carroll broke another players jaw, and we stuck with him.

Tiote has been on and off in this last year or so due to injuries and getting back into shape, but he has shown good form at times, and played well. No one can do his job nearly as well.

I don't agree with the people who say he was at his best in his first season. He was more consistent and stayed injury free, but he made far more unprofessional mistakes, and his best performances were more recent ones, like against Manure in Jan.

He was also good when we played our 4-3-3 formation last season, and went on our long stretch of games.

My issue with him is that he's in his third year with us now, and I don't see any improvements in his game since he joined. Based on his early performances he should have now moulded himself in to one of the top 8-10 CM's in the league IMO but he hasn't done that. He still picks up needless bookings and his retention of the ball should/could be better.

Don't get me wrong I do rate him highly, I just expected bigger and better things from him after his early performances for us. Hopefully over the next few games he can find some rhythm and hit the heights we know he's capable of.

I just think he's still capable enough for us, although admittedly his form has taken a dip in recent games... He's not been at his breathtaking best for a while already...

As for improvements, you can't judge him because he didn't improve. If you wanted him to show improvement then he should've played his first season like how Perchy did. Then you'd really see improvement.

You can't go transfer listing or fining him for swinging a punch at a club mate when on international duty. All bets are off when not in black and white stripes. Big game for both countries and their players, full of adrenalin. Absolute non issue, they'll just shake hands and forget it once off the pitch. At least they should do.

It would be a ridiculous over reaction. Tiote does need to up his game though and get back to what he is good at. I think the fans adulation building him up into a brute based on his no nonsense approach, has gone to his head.

To be fair you're right, transfer listing him probably would be an over reaction. I do think Pardew should get both players in his office and investigate the incident though, to brush it under the carpet would be naive. I definitely agree with your second point about the adulation going to his head.

Agree with all of this, we do big him up a lot but when he is at his best there are not many better in the league than him in the holding midfield role, if any. No way we can transfer list him over a minor indiscretion half way across the world in a pumped up atmosphere. Does bring to question though his temperament if we were to make say a Semi final or something when the passion and feelings are at a massive high.

He does need to improve on what hes shown this season though. No way near is best at all this season and it could be because he feels too comfortable with his status as a fan favorite at the moment.

If he's punched Cisse though that's not a minor indiscretion, punching a player is a pretty big incident, add to the fact that it's his team mate at club level and it inflates the situation further.

I mean when was the last time you saw one player punch another? It just doesn't happen these days, the only incident I can remember would be the Dyer and Bowyer incident. I can't even remember a player punching an opposing player in the last 5 years. As I've said to place him on the transfer list would be the wrong decision, but I don't think a club fine would be out of the question and for him to be warned of his future conduct.

If it doesn't get addressed by Pardew upon their return it has the potential to simmer over a period of time and disrupt team morale/harmony (ala Batty & Le Saux for Blackburn)

He has definitely improved mate. His reading of the game and his interceptions have improved dramatically. His first season was basically him acting as a barrier and a physical presence. In his 2nd season, he was in and out with injuries, but in his few decent spells, he was fantastic. He intercepted passes far better than the season before, his tackling was more precise, and his decision making was generally better. He still makes risky moves, and his cameo performance vs Norwich was alarming, but if you look past his lack of match fitness and performances recently, you can see the improvement, and the quality.

I don't think you can really be too critical of Tiote right now, as the only player that's performed consistent this season is Santon, and Ba and HBA have been the ones carrying us through with moments of quality.

Lets give this season a chance to kick off. If by the end of the season Tiote is still showing inconsistency, picking up knocks and getting injured time after time then I'd consider letting him go for 15m. But lets give him this season to prove his quality.

He showed us, at times, last season what he's capable of, and we're much better with him, than without him. Bigi and Anita cannot be his replacements, they simply don't offer the same sort of presence. We can be a good passing side, but the midfield lacks back bone and comfort without Tiote.

im pretty sure he didnt punch Cisse he went to hit someone else... Cisse then tried to calm him down

I really, really hope he didn't punch or even attempt to punch Cisse. If he did then that could really jeopardise the team back home. To be fair he should not be attempting to strike anyone, let alone one of his own club mates. So here's hoping it's all something and nothing, we have enough issues to deal with injury wise, without infighting making things worse.
Cannot see anything written elsewhere about Tiote and Cisse, so l guess there is nothing to see, unless someone can say differently . The whole match sounds like a disaster, hope no one was seriously hurt because of it.

I agree with a lot of what you've just said there Tash. I wouldn't sell Tiote this season, but 12 months ago I wouldn't have considered EVER selling him. Where as now, if he doesn't perform consistently well this season and is patchy with his form then I would consider letting him go in the summer for 15-20 million (think someone would pay around this for him).

I still hold out plenty of hope that we see the Tiote of old shortly, and if we do then he's the type of player we could mould our team around.

DT showed me an amusing piece this morning (from a while back) about how Cisse and Tiote are actually best friends at the club, so hopefully the fracas is quickly resolved.

Probably been on here before, but it was the first time I'd seen it

Anyway, looking on the bright side of what was a farce, any chance they could both be thrown out of the comp and all our players will be with us through some tricky fixtures?
