Just back today. I wasn't terribly impressed with Cardiff at all - good for shopping but little else to do. Poor Mr lala and lala Junior got dragged around the shops most of Saturday but otherwise we just chilled and watched the olympics on the rather large TV we had in our room. I have found myself immersed in the olympics and have watched it all from sailing (which I don't understand the rules of) to gymnastics (which I don't understand the scoring) and despite what I thought at the beginning I'm really enjoying it. It's amazing what effect a few gold medals can have. What a weekend it has been for team GB, who would have thought Andy Murray would have got gold beating both Djokovic and Federer along the way - truly magical. We have done amazing across the board with the exception of the football...
What can I say, watching team GB is no different to watching England, pitiful really, the usual back passing, lack of commitment and inability to win a penalty shoot out! Reaching the millenium stadium from where the taxi was able to drop us off was in itself an olympic event, the heavens opened and even with raincoat and brolly it was impossible to stay dry but boy were we relieved to find the stadium was under a roof. Fantastic stadium (wasted on the Welsh lol) the atmosphere was unbelievable, union jacks and Mexican waves everywhere and just under full capacity 70,100+ spectators. We settled down into out seats which were directly above the halfway line and just before KO along came 2 S Korean's who sat down next to us much to everyone's amusement. They were very friendly though and on getting their first goal seemed reluctant to celebrate - I told them to go ahead they deserved it. I thought the second penalty which was saved was "soft" and shouldn't have been given. Team GB didn't really get going until late in the match just before Giggs came on - the place erupted but I couldn't bring myself to clap a ManU player. We were never going to win a penalty shoot out and we left the stadium embarassed at losing to the underdog.
It's good to be back in Plymouth, there's no place like it.
