You might agree/disagree with what i'm about to say but today's footballers are selfish all they care about is the money to me when they say '' i love the club'' its rubbish they are putting a face on, all they care about is the money, long gone are the days when players like Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville stay at one club for over 20 years. The modern day footballer doesn't have any loyalty, most of them listen to their agents and don't make any decisions for themselves, there is hope though, i was reading a couple of weeks ago that Antonio Valencia sacked his agent because he wanted to stay at United for at least 15 years, that's a very good decision he's made and i respect him more for doing it. When Wayne Rooney questioned our manager 2 years ago, i was very angry with him, i couldn't believe he did such a thing, he's the an that gave him his champions league debut and developed him into a world class talent, the turnig point for me was when our manager did his press conference after we beat Trabzonspor 1-0 thanks to a very good goal by Nani and the manager was talking about cows and he said that a former United player questioned if Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Rnaldo could make it at the club and they proved him wrong. A few days later he signed the contract which will kep him at the club until 2015, the only thing i regret is that should've been done with no press attention and behind closed doors but its done now. How do the press know how much players get paid, do they make something or do they actually phone clubs or agents to ask to see how much they get paid, the reason why i ask this is because the press keep going on about Wayne Rooney being paid £250,000 a week, i doubt its that much probably £150,000 if that. Rant over.
Well apparently if you include all of the sponsors and that then he get £250,000 a week. I don't think his wage reaches £200,000 a week though.
We feed the monster, we're willing to shell out if we say no prices will come down so will incomes come down, transfer fees the whole shibang, it starts with the consumer.
His basic is £160k a week, then he gets image rights on top of those which are between £60k and £90k depending on who you talk to. I reckon it's probably £60k, but is the equivalent of a wage of £90k what with the tax benefits of image rights. Either way he gets a lot! To be honest the consumer, as in the match going fan, plays very little role in football nowadays, particularly at the top level. Of Utd's revenues, less than a third now come from matches, and of that third probably around 40% comes from corporate shindigs at the ground. And as soon as traditional match going fans say the prices are too high, they are simply replaced by a load of upper middle class 'fans' who are happy to pay the higher prices. Top flight football seems to have outgrown its fans.
ohh its only 150k a week..thats not much..hmmmm. and the aforementioned players only stayed because they were winning trophies...or they would have wanted to pursue their careers elswhere too...and if they made such moves then they also would have demanded big bucks...however..credit to them in todays mould of footballers. i dont think nobody plays it for a minimal wage...if any top class player did then id respect them...but as a generalisation they are all the same..wether they play for your club or mine. truly there is only one type of person who loves the club unconditionally and that is us the fans.....thats why we are stupid enough to pay a big chunk of our weekly wage to help multi millionaires get richer...i wait for the day when fan loyalty is rewarded...but i can bet we wouldnt even get to watch one top flight game for free via the club's kindness and thank you.
I'm not bothered about supporting an english club vs Barcelona, I want to see Chelsea getting thrashed 5-0 in the Nou Camp and a Stamford Bridge because they laughed at us when we lost to them in the champions league final last season and they are a plastic club that's has no history, before their owner came they were nothing and now all of a sudden they are a big club, it doesn't work like that, it takes time. I also want them to miss out of the top 4 because i really don't like them they got England's lionheart John Terry pumping his Chelsea badge everytime he goes out on the pitch, they've got Frank Lampard who only scores penalties. Thoughts ?
I'd like Chelsea to progress. It might silence those who claim the Premier League is crap, plus if Chelsea went on to win it the 4th place team in England (hopefully Arsenal) won't qualify for next season's Champions League.
i doubt it they will make the top four and Barca will beat chelsea, Messi will play around with their defence
to be honest i would like them to progress too but if we're being real, their defence is sloppy which has been proved today, they will have to improve big time if they want to beat barca and silence messi,
My thoughts are that you sound like one of the ABU`s that hope we don`t win the league every year. I totally disagree with your post. We are no longer in the comp and it will not affect us in any way. The Champs League would have had 2 Utd- Chelsea finals on the bounce but for some terrible refereeing decisions. Chelsea owe Barca big time for that semi, and i hope the tables are reversed this time. Yes, Barca are the favourites and play nice football but i hope for a Prem team win.
So if we refuse to pay the extorional rates of PPV Kits tickets and all the other branded crap then tell me where the money comes from? Less revenue will be gained, less demand means prices drop, its one of those basic laws matey. Absolutely all ALL of the money in football comes from the consumer via one route or another.
You have an opinion which is fine we are all entitled to one but i would rather see anyone but Chelsea win the champions league.
This. I wonder what would happen to all the theories about this being the weakest PL in history if Chelsea won the CL, and Bilbao beat Barca in the final of the CdR. I think a few Liverpool fans would suffer from exploding head syndrome if that happened...
Honestly why do players do this ? its not like they love their clubs they do it for the sake of it in my opinion, for example look at Cesc Fabregas he kissed the Arsenal badge when he was playing for them, its not like he supported them as a boy, i doubt he he loved the club if he did he would still be there now. I can understand why Danny welbeck does it though because he's a local lad that supported United as a boy and he loves the club but when players like Cesc Fabregas doing it i don't understand at times why they do it Do you agree/disagree with what i've said ?
