I'm telling you, those cheap little French stubby beers you get in supermarket are the future. £3-something for 8 bottles, or you could pay whatever more it is for 16, and they're well nice. Obviously you wouldn't take them anywhere public, like a party. "Oh, look at that dismal little article with his stubby bottles", but alone at home they are perfectly acceptable. I've only just come to this liberating conclusion, being as I was a bit of a beer snob beforehand. I urge you, as people what I've spoken to on the internet and stuff, lay those shackles down and by cheap beer. Kicks arse, really does. By way of making this a thread that someone may feel contributing to, why don't you tell us your favourite beers? Or lemme know about any other economy gems out there you've found? Glug glug.
I like Oranjeboom, but makes me turn into somewhat of a ****. Aldi eh? They had a Stella rip off drop in there called St Etienne (I think) and it was perfectly quaffable.
I can zip across the road and buy a case of budweiser (24 cans ) for about $16 thats about 10 quid, now it might not be Sammy Smiths premium ale but to sit around my computer on a Friday night and listen to City's game the following morning with a cold one it's just fine. I know it's a crap beer but if you get it cold enough you can't tell the difference
**** this ****. I was trying to reign it in as I have some very pressing early morning appointments tomorrow (haircut) for which a slight hangover will not be required. However, I fancy a beer now. Car scrapey windscreeny time.
I like Becks, never get a headache the next day. National and Avenue have had Coors for £1.99 a pint for the last month good stuff. I dont go in Aldi either but that St Etienne is decent French beer.
i like my american beers , Coors , Bud and Miller . and from elsewhere Palma Luca , Brahma , san miguel , superbock , mythos. Dont like Sam Adams though as it tastes too hoppy. Never been a fan of northern european lagers either , tho Orangeboom is an exception. I like my guiness though and many of the english dark ales , oddly they are a total contrast to the lagers i like .
That fat **** what eats stuff for a job on The One show reckons Aldi is the best shop about for potted food. I dunno if it's true... He's surely eaten a lot of food though, so should know.
Just take them in a netto carrier bag and no-one will ever know. Alternatively (hope this isn't against your rules/hints Ricardo) you can follow the Brown rules (but not about how/when to sell your country's gold).
Next time you're in Prague take a tour of the brewery. I've only done the Pilsner Urquell and Budvar brewery tours but they are both difficult to get to from Prague and the Czech Republic has a zero drink-drive limit.
I have been to Prague but didn't do a brewery tour. There was a decent club in Wenceslas Square that I recall. The name eludes me but it was basically a titty bar full of really fit dancers.
whoever said brahma is onto a good thing cause it's yet to be usurped at a summer BBQ. i'll trust brazilians on the subject of partying! bit poncy but given the run of the supermarket i'll opt for peroni nastro azzurro every time. cracking bottle of lager!
I used to work there so I pretty much worked my way round the shop finding out what was good and what wasn't. There's some stuff that I avoid, but there's more that's good. And I think the reason I avoid the stuff I do is because growing up there were certain things I was brought up on the cheap stuff, I've got used to it, and I don't like the expensive stuff.
