Cant agree with Nick when he says the lads in front of him have done very well. http://www.thisishullandeastriding....-time-Tigers/story-15188015-detail/story.html
agree with ya chazz. at the very least Simmo should have been on the bench to try and make a difference in our last few games. its obvious something isnt working with our current strikers, whether thats due to the formation or barmbys tactics... who knows... either way simpson obviously doesnt figure in barmbys plans. shame really because most city fans would like to see him & stewart up front together as that really seemed to work well.
So our strikers haven't scored a league goal between them for over 2 months and our manager thinks they've done a good job? Good way to start the pressure building on himself. Someone should tell him that often it's better to not give an interview than to give one and say that.
It may be a long shot but is there any chance there's a clause in his contract if he goes over a certain number of appearances? Or maybe he's really s h i t in training?
That's absolutely absurd! Considering our frontline's form of late, Simmo should be starting, never mind the bench. The problem is, even if he does get given a chance, I don't see him fitting into the current formation. I realise it's difficult to drop someone from our midfield at the moment, but I honestly think we need to be playing two strikers: Mannone Rosenior Chester Hobbs Dawson Stewart McKenna Koren Brady McLean Simpson Subs: Carson, Cooper, Olofinjana/Evans, King, Fryatt I realise dropping Oli or Evans from the squad completely is a bit of a tough thing to do, but you could argue the same for leaving out Simmo, amongst others. As for Dudgeon/Dawson - only one should be making the squad, two left backs on a bench when there's a limit of only 5 seems a little inefficient. Cairney could do with a loan spell, and Garcia looks far from being sharp enough to return on a regular basis so he doesn't make the cut for me either. A shame the whole Hammill thing didn't come off - we could have done with a new winger rather than playing every striker played there instead.
i think stewart will be benched tomorrow in favour of Oli, perhaps with Evans wide right as he plays for Northern Ireland Playing Stewart as an out and out winger, we are getting very predictable from the start enabling teams to set-up easily against us
Mussie, premiertiger posted the starting line-up on the match thread which I think had stewart starting. He's normally in the know
Totally agree. What sort of message does it send? If he cant get in the team 'cos they're doing well' when they're not scoring what chance does he ever have if playing?
Would like to see: Mannone Rosenior Chester Hobbs Dudgeon Brady McKenna Koren Skywalker Stewart Simpson
I think Simpson may have been a bit busy recently, what with him having a starring role in the new BBC drama Inside Men.
Agreed. We all agree that Simpson should be given a chance but if not you'd at least have him on the bench. We have loads of attacking players and no defensive cover, yet we insist on putting every defender we have in the matchday squad and leaving 3 or 4 attackers out who could make a difference. We aren't going to use defenders off the bench are we? I agree on the left backs thing too, my preference is Dudgeon but ffs we don't need to have two in the squad. If you were allowed 11 subs then yes by all means have one to cover each position but with only 4 spaces to cover 10 outfield positions you can't have that luxury. As Chester can play anywhere across the backline, just having a CB on the bench would suffice in an emergency. Then we still have 3 positions for subs we might use.
Assuming that the team we have is correct, there's no problem having a bench of Carson, Cooper, Mclean, Oli and Simpson.
how come mclean has gone from flavour of the month to the bench, without a game for him to miss a couple of sitters to earn it? im not a fan of his at all, but dont see how fryatt and stewart start ahead of him on current form in all honesty.
Pretty certain Dudg is on the bench instead of Simpson, although the bench hasn't been 100% decided yet.
So the only game changer is Oli then? After 65 mins and we havent scored up steps Mclean!! Seems a no brainer to have Simpson as a sub too. A LB as a sub is pointless. Any injury to Dawson and Evans can play there.
If Dawson needs replacing, we've already got a left back in Cooper. PS I didn't edit the post above, I just accidentally clicked on 'Edit Post', rather than 'Reply With Quote'.
I,m still worried about NBs inability to notice that we really do need a different type of forward than those already at the club, and his comments about not looking for forwards in the transfer window and now the comments that those ahead of JS are doing well are starting to make me doubt his abilities, i desperately want him to be a success as we all do, but ignoring issues such as new striker or not willing to give JS a game against donny or Bristol city who aren,t exactly great defensively make me feel that he is not happy at maybe admitting he got something wrong and try something else.
Don't see the hype about Simpson. Maybe he should be given a chance, but I think it should've been against Crawley. He never really impressed at City and wasn't great at Millwall. Anytime a player is out the first team for an extended period of time their ability seems to get blown out of proportion by fans. Don't think he'd be the answer as a lone striker although looks fairly likely none of our current squad are. Still think Fryatt's our best striker and if he scores against Bristol it could make/break our season as his form could be imperative through the March fixture congestion in order for us to maintain our promotion push. Don't think we should criticise Barmbs, managers always defend their team/players, he's just doing his job.
Ye you are right so it makes it even more baffling to keep Dudgeon on the bench. After the way i bit on the other thread too i feel you may be trying to get inside my head!! ha paranoid me!
