The last time we won a game with him in charge was at St James Park, Exeter, and Lawrie Dudfield scored the opening day winner, in August 2001. And last time we had him we got done 4-0 by Burnley.
Yes, it's mister Bates. And for those who've had to read that twice, weren't you warned you'd go blind if you didn't stop?
Ref. Mr Tony Bates to give him his proper name. Interesting that Hull Ref. Carl Boyeson has got the Barnsley v. Birmingham game. Come on Carl, help the tykes to a win theres a good chap. Mark Halsey has got the Lesta Pity v. Cardiff City game. The Ref. for our game @ Birmingham on tuesday is someone called Fred Graham, whoever he is.?
Bit picky but Laurie Dudfield got the third goal at Exeter in the opening game of the season in 2001 - I think Greaves and Whitmore got the first two
Yeah they did, I don't see where the pickiness is though. Dudfield scored the 3rd in a 3-1 victory, that's usually the goal referred to as the winner, and it was on the opening day of the season so it was the opening day winner. You thinking Greaves with the second goal got the winner?
Rico - does being the new moderator come with being a clever dick? I think you'll find the third goal in a 3-1 win is referred to as being just that. Generally speaking a winner is when the final score is only separated by a single goal. Again just being picky. I was at the match - dare say you weren't.
Nah I've always been like this, and it wasn't meant to come across as being a smart arse. I've heard the last goal scored by teams winning by 2 goals described as the winning goal plenty of times, otherwise I wouldn't have had it in my head to call it that in the first place. I didn't know if I was being corrected because I'd been misread as saying he'd scored the opener and he was actually agreeing with what I had put, or whether he was saying the 2nd goal should be the winner because it was the first goal above what the opposition scored. (I've also heard that discussion between fans before) I see what you're trying to do there.
