Beach Boy's, Beatles, Chicago, Led Zepplin, Acker Bilk, Kenny ball and Johnny Dankworth. All hold good memories for me......However most of those will be foreign to some of you youngsters...........Although the Beach boys are supposedly getting back together for a tour........strewth they must be in their 80's..... still good luck to them.
I'm into the modern indie bands such as , Two Door Cinema Club, The Wombats, Bombay Bicycle Club.... but I also enjoy Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys) and Serge from Kasabian are two of the most amazing men in music. COYR!
Alphaville, Blues Traveller, Counting Crows, Dave Matthews Band, Eels, Fischer-Z (one great album), Green Day, Hootie and the Blowfish, It's Immaterial, Jethro Tull, Kings of Leon, Lost Prophets, Marillion, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Oasis, Pink Floyd, Queens of the Stoneage, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smiths, Third Eye Blind, U2(first 3 albums then the sublime Under a blood red sky, followed by a load of ****), Van morrison, William Shatner, XTC (Crash test dummies did a great cover of XTC's Peter Pumpkinhead). I like some music from virtually any decade in the last 6, so have many favourites. The (almost complete alphabet of bands) above is just some that sprung to mind, but don't think I could come up a definitive list because it changes from day to day.
PLACEBO! Seen them a few times, most notably in Brixton Academy and it was recorded for a new DVD that was just released before Christmas. We got into the after-party and met the band and it was great.
Music is up there with supporting Saints will put into approx decades 80's OMD early U2, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Cure, The Blue Nile, Depeche Mode, New Order 90's Stone Roses, Sparklehorse, Suede, Pulp, Blur 00's The Killers, Rihanna, The enemy, Athlete, Keane currently The courteeners, The vaccines, Elbow, Noah and the Whale There are so many other great artists and tracks already named on this thread - hearing a classic track can turn an average day into a great day
I'm really surprised that no one else has mentioned the Delays. Southampton born and bred and I believe fans! I was the year below them in college. 'Long time coming' has had many hits on the juke box at Avondales (London Road) over the years !
Bloc Party, Arctic Monkeys, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Maccabees, The Smith, The Vaccines, The Strokes, Two Door Cinema Club and The Wombats
Just finished watching 'Drive', and it reminded me of this piece... On another note, very good film.
Clash,Sex Pistols,Stiff Little Fingers, early U2,Green Day. Saw XTC in the early 80's at the Gaumont, and thought they were crap to be honest, but not really my sort of music. My Mrs bought me tickets for the Pistols back in 2007 at Brixton, and came up with me even though she was to young to remember them when they were first around. She ended up with a burst ear drum, and is now virtually deaf in one ear. My fault apparently for liking loud music.
Heart . seen them Twice , Early stuff was the best . Clannad seen them twice , and BOC ,seen them at the Brook twice . Never in their Heyday though . So many different bands and types of music on here . Loads I have never even heard of , That's no surprise .
And the footy link would be? Ah well. Just thought I would add something for all you musicians out there. These guys are in the studio now recording their first album and they just blow me away with the quality of their play. You are going to be hearing a lot more from them in the next year or two. The perfect antidote to X-factor mediocrity! Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ko0kdCf0zTE&feature=youtube_gdata_player http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnSJuD-h_nA&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Kenny Ball? Kenny £**kin Ball ffs? With you on all the others, tho, especially the beachboys. Brian Wilson is the Nigel Adkins of the 3 minute pop tune.
Inxs in 1987 were the best band I have ever seen live , Michael Hutchence had such a presence on stage. The 90's were spent in a haze on the rave scene so no bands there then just far too many nightclubs and muddy fields in the middle of nowehere! As for the current I have tickets to see Laura Marling ,Gabrielle Alpin and tickets to see my all time fave David Sylvian at the Royal Albert Hall.
Saw the Eagles twice over here and saw the likes The Who, Yardbirds, Procol Harum, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Ginger Baker's Air Force, Mott the Hoople, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Dire Straits and many more. Not been to a concert for a long while now though.
Think the Beach Boys are constantly together for tours, they run our hunger for nostalgia ragged!... unless you mean with Brian Wilson, which I could never see happening. Mike Love saw to that a long time ago. The true modern Beach Boys experience in my opinion lies with seeing Brian Wilson live, something everyone should do before they die. Unless they hate the Beach Boys, which I'm not sure anyone could.
