Could somebody explain to me where and how the apparent animosity - certainly as seen on this forum - between Hull City and Leeds united originated? I have been a staunch Tigers supporter all my life and never supported any other team but, like many other football followers I'm sure, we also support other teams' endeavours when it come to pride of association. As an Englishman I support England's national team and want to see them do well. Equally, I like to see English and indeed British and Irish teams, do well at either national or club level. I've been happy and proud to see British teams lifting the 'European Cup/Champions League' or any other competitions from the 'Inter-Cities Fairs Cup' to the FA and League Cups. As a Yorkshireman, that sense of identity also extends to Yorkshire teams, provided they are not in direct competition to the Tigers. When Leeds United were enjoying a good measure of success in both the Revie and O'Leary years, I supported their efforts as a fellow Yorkshire team - I enjoyed watching them play and was happy for their success. The same is true with Boro and other Yorkshire teams who have had success. Of course there is a tinge of envy and jealousy, but hatred! Yes I was somewhat pissed that Bradford and Barnsley made it the Premier League before us and that the likes of Huddersfield have had more success over the years than we have but I was still pleased for them as Yorkshire teams. Rivalry yes, but hatred. Why TWS - they are not ****e. We would be offended if we were referred to in such emotive language so why do we have to use such language to offend others. We could do to remember there have been many associations between the clubs with players that have played for both and other connections, Raich Carter and Billy Bremner to name but two. As long as it's all good humoured banter and understood as such, that's fine, but sometimes some of the posts on here seem to go way beyond that. We have been in the doldrums, we should certainly not gloat when other teams, even rivals find themselves in difficulties.
The main reason has been because of the large number of Hull Whites who not only support another city's team but have rubbed it in our faces throughout our hardest times. There's no excuse for not supporting your home team IMO. Oh and because the banter between both sets of fans is pretty decent and not without a laugh or two.
It's hatred of Leeds fans from the Hull area for me and that's it, i've got nowt against Leeds fans from Leeds & West Yorkshire. Don't like how they belittled City when we were at opposite ends of the football league and how they were latching onto their successes in the top flight and Europe. It's not just Leeds, though, i'm not entirely happy with Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal or Man Utd fans from Hull either.
I've read it now but paragraphs would have been nice. EDIT: Also for me I moved to the Leeds area in 2002 and got loads of stick for been a Hull fan, then spent the next few years with a massive grin on my face as the tables slowly turned
I was pretty anti-Leeds till the recent emergence of Leicester as the primary bell-ends in the Championship (on here anyway)
agreed with the above, its the fans who live in hull and support leeds as they where the nearest "good" team that annoy most people....plus they used to win by cheating-ask brian
That I can understand. I've always felt that folks who don't support their home town club are not really supporters.
No offence intended - am prepared to be corrected. I does seem rather odd that someone born, bred and living in Leicester should support Hull City rather than Leicester City - though I do appreciate there could be some perfectly acceptable, or even quricky reasons why it might come about such as early influence from a significant other. I thought you lived in Wookey Hole though!
As a kid at school during the Don Revie years 95% of the school were Leeds Utd supporters and i had Leeds rammed down my throat. There is only so much you can take so i grew up hating TWS. end of. I really enjoyed it when Brian Clough took them over and the turmoil and decline that have followed ever since. But as many have said its also the Hull whites who mocked Hull City during the past dark days. PAYBACK IS SUCH A BITCH BUT I JUST LOVE IT NOW.
When I was a young lad going to Hull Grammar I was the only city fan in my class. Everybody else was Leeds fans or Liverpool fans or Manchester United fans, strangely enough a couple of em were West Brom fans and Leicester fans back then but they were first division teams when I was a kid. Anyway I used to go to school with my city scarf on everyday and I would get teased about city being crap and if we lost on a saturday they would all laugh at me but I did'nt care, I saw my team play every week and some of them clowns had never actually been to a live football game. Fast forward 30 odd years and I found a lot of them old school pals on facebook and guess what they became city fans when we got to wembley! Everyone of them turds saw Deano bang in that volley that day and had seasons passes for our first season in the prem! I feel sorry for them to be honest, them days of going to BP with my dad as a kid watching Waggy and Chilton banging them in were some of the finest days of my life and they missed it all supporting some mythical giant team from somewhere else in the country that they never got to see. I'm sure they all had a great day out chanting we are going up at Wembley with there fancy replica shirts but it did'nt mean to them what it meant to me that day,40 years of dedication finally paying off with a little glory and a little tear in my eye for me dad who never got to see it. So I do'nt hate the Hull whites, I just pity them for never knowing the true joy of seeing your local underdog club finally getting it's day in the sunshine. Thats what football is really about not prancing round Hull city center wearing a Man Utd chumps league winners shirt showing off and latching onto some other teams glory. I'm city till I die and very proud of it too!
My first game was the 9th March 1991, Hull away at Leicester. Turned up to the game a Leicester fan, Hull won 1-0 so I left a Hull fan.
Yeah I also support Man U as much as I support Hull but follow Hull closer as its more exciting, and Leicester are still my 2nd/3rd team.
