Interesting to see with all the talk of us having a foreign coach how many other countries have one.

I’m not opposed to having a foreign coach, someone who has spent a lot of time playing/managing in this country and heavily identified with the domestic scene, like Arteta, Kompany, Guardiola. Someone that has an obvious link that represents English football would be a lot more palatable.

I think the difference are expectations raised, after 2014- 2016 I’ve never felt so low in England, I watched 2018 with no hope, and Southgate’s era raised my hopes again and I enjoyed watching them, that’s why I defend him to the death , but I accept his limitations in big games and to win we maybe needed a change , somebody to finish his job , and this fraud is taking us backwards , I really thought we might win something soon but am feeling closer to 2016 right now , maybe the key is to watch with no hope .
This is exactly how I feel. Southgate did so much to create a brilliant team togetherness and good feeling around England. He was just that one step short tactically and reverted to being pragmatic in big games where we should have been the favourites.
The change to another manager was supposed to be the final step tactically. Instead we’ve had terribly inept performances. We’ve gone massively backwards. And the biggest thing, is a lot of the players that deserve to be in the squad based on talent, are also the players that fostered that team spirit and togetherness. This is like watching a bunch of strangers who don’t gel at all, who, to add insult to injury aren’t as good as the lads who should have been on the plane. It’s a big missed opportunity.
I said when this ridiculous squad was announced that city would be the only footballing joy I got this year.

Well, we made hard work of it, watching England is a bit like watching City always make it hard. The subs made the difference, so credit to Tuchel for getting them right.

I think Pickford is looking a bit of a weak link. I'd look to change it fr the next game.
trouble is we've now had four games and the subs have changed all of them. so he starts the subs in the next game and they play crap, so he brings on the next subs, and they change the match, so he starts them in the next game, and they play crap. repeat ad infinitum.

defence dire again.

corners are still a waste of time without maguire getting to them all.

the squad selection was complete rubbish. the doctor congo game showed tuchel getting angry, but he was the idiot that selected the poor players. ditching experience (henderson aside) for shiny new players with "potential". or donkeys, as several of them will eventually be shown to be. and he still has no idea at all what his first eleven is.

still, on the plus side, we certainly can't be accused of peaking too early, so there's that, and we do score most of our goals in the second half. so there's that, and thank goodness for kane, and lordy lord keep him from injury...

Sébastien Desabre:

“I’ve watched Harry Kane for many years, but every time I face him, he reminds me why he’s one of the best strikers of his generation.

After the match I shook his hand and said, ‘Do you ever get tired of deciding big games?’ He smiled and just said, ‘I just do my job.’

That’s Harry Kane. No drama, no noise. Just quality.

He isn’t only a goalscorer anymore. He drops deep, links the play, creates chances for others, presses defenders and then somehow still arrives in the box at exactly the right moment to score.

Most strikers become easier to defend as they get older because they lose a bit of pace. Harry has gone in the opposite direction. He’s added more intelligence, more awareness and more ways to hurt you.We prepared for him all week, but you can prepare for Harry Kane and still fail because his football brain is on another level.

Sometimes you don’t lose because your team played badly. Sometimes you lose because the other team has a player who is simply exceptional.

Tonight, that player was Harry Kane.

How does Rice take great corners for Arsenal but absolute dog turd for England
i know fifa made a rule for the world cup with keepers
so you cant do what arsenal were doing at corners

at arsenal he would inswing it into the 6 yard box and playrs would crowd and block the keeper etc

Spence and Madueke nowhere near good enough.
I'll never understand in a million years why they have left footed players on the right. If Madueke played on the left he'd be able to skin his man and get to the by-line, but on the right, he comes inside time after time and straight into the opposition. What on earth is Tooty and his No2 thinking? I'm calling Madueke the 'doormat' because he comes inside all the time.

Pickford is a ferking idiot...The hand gestures, rushing out of his goal to tell players to get up. It's like he thinks he's on stage doing Shakespeare and they've all come to see him. The only good thing is that he's prepared to lambast the defence when they go AWOL...Which is most of the time...Get Stones back in to do some Maguire style pointing.

It's so that when they move in towards the centre, the ball is on their dominant foot, which gives a better passing angle and more powerful shot. Also because they're then attacking the weaker side of a usually right-footed defender. Same reason as why left handed players sometimes play on the right wing in håndball.
