Transfer Rumours Summer 2026 Transfer Thread…

Africafoot has linked us with Ghanaian centre-back Jerome Opoku. Currently plays for İstanbul Başakşehir.
I think we'll end up getting two CBs given all the speculation.

I'd hope for one top quality one to pair with Hughes and another rotation option. Fingers crossed for no injury crisis meaning Egan/Ajayi won't have to deputise much.

I wonder if we keep McNair or try and move him on? We surely can't have him, Egan and Ajayi taking up three squad spaces?

Interesting that the BBC article states as fact that we've avoided any trouble with the two deals, but doesn't clarify how the Shehu deal helps even though it was announced as completed today.

They also say that the Joseph deal was supposed to help but was held up, which makes me wonder whether Shehu was a hastily-agreed, last minute, in case of emergency thing. Also makes me wonder whether the Joseph deal is still on.

I'm not even sure to what extent Shehu was contracted with us. The club announced in the retained list that he was offered a new deal after his current one was expiring this summer, but it was never reported that he signed it. So did we get £2.6m for an academy player with a few hours left on his contract? All very strange.

I wonder whether the league might have any questions about all this and if it may yet come under scrutiny.
Yeah wouldn't be surprised if Boro got a big old slice of go **** yourselves over KJ now.....could almost consider it a case of deliberate sabotage delaying it so late in the day on their part with a view to us getting a points deduction then trying to sue us (god knos Gibbo is a whiny bitch on this stuff) for beating them to promotion whilst non PSR compliant.

I think the chances of us making a left field (metaphorical, not necessarily literal) signing from Panathinaikos in the coming days are rather high.

If we're planning on a back 3, which given performances vs Boro and Millwall isn't out of the question, you'd prob want 6 who can play at CB, esp with injury history of Hughes and Ajayi, so keeping those 4 and adding 2 would make sense

That's a very valid point. It would worry me though if we played 3 there regularly that one of Egan, Ajayi or McNair is the first backup.

We need 3 centre backs minimum IMO

Egan can’t be playing regularly, Ajayi maybe as he’s quick and physical, McNair probably move on

I’ve wondered since the initial link whether there was any dishonourable intent on Boro’s part tbh, but thought I was being a bit harsh and cynical so didn’t post it. Certainly if that was a big chunk of the £6M and it fell through yesterday it would have screwed us over and put anyone who’d suffered from our then dodgy promotion in a decent position to sue.

If they now pull out of the deal it would lend a lot of weight to that argument, but if it still goes through then fair enough.

I'd say Egan definitely keep for that team spirit and experience, he's also got his last year so will probably go next summer and there's no value there.

I agree on Ajayi, I'm a big fan anyway.

We could genuinely get a fee for McNair which would be yet more profit (as much as that being reasoning bores me with modern football) given he came for free.
