It doesn't work like that. The cost of the player is spread over the length ofvthe contract in the accounts. Yes we might have one month of a 3 year contract in the accounts but it wouldn't make much difference
No, an entire year of amortisation will go on the 25/26 accounts. If we extend the end date of the 25/26 financial year to 31st July and sign a player for £20 million in July on a four-year contract, that would go down as a £5 million expense for 25/26 so there is no point doing it as we will need to sign players before August.

Im no expect in accounting for football clubs but that's not how it works in normal accounting. Its not writing off the cost over the period of the contract. Are you saying if you purchased a player on the kast day of the financial year on a one year contract youd write off the full cost?

I’m saying if we extend the end date of the 25/26 financial year to 31st July and sign anyone in July, the first year of the amortised transfer fee will go on the 25/26 accounts and the second year will go on the 26/27 accounts.

It would be pro rata'd, so only a month in 25/26. It's not just divided by years, it's often done to the day.

We won’t get a six-point deduction before the season starts because the accounts for 25/26 won’t be published until March or April next year.

If we know it's coming in the season, the date on which it is formally applied is arbitrary.

Let's just hope we make the requisite sales, because I'd rather lose money on a single key asset than need 46-50 points to survive.

Or maybe we just accept relegation now and simply build to win the championship next year?

It could give us another month to conclude outgoings.

But we'd have to justify it in a way that isn't just 'we need another month to shift our deadwood'.

What on earth are you doing on this thread then?

Destanoğlu isn’t very good. He’d be a better second choice than Phillips though. I’d be concerned if we’re signing him as first choice though.

My concern is that Acun is up to his tricks again, wanting to force Turkish players into the reckoning, rather then leave it to Dublin and his merry men and Serj, I'm hoping its the usual bollox and lazy journalism rather then true tbh.
