Martin out?

Wonder what odds you’d get on a Russell Martin led Leicester side getting to the PL before Saints do?
I would be surprised if Leicester get as far as the play-off positions. Whilst I can see that Martin would be a good fit, the challenges are too great.

I find the contrasting attitudes between two ex Saints managers on these threads fascinating.
You have Will Still, who lasted just 16 games in the Championship with a win % of 25.
And then we have Russell Martin who had a win % of 45.21 from 73 games and oversaw the longest unbeaten run in the club's history and is one of only four managers to win promotion to the top league (the other three are the popular Ted Bates, Lawrie Mac and Nigel Adkins).
Now I get that he may have said some things that rubbed up Saints fans the wrong way while under pressure in a difficult PL season that almost everyone was predicting that we would struggle in but the level of dislike towards him from Saints fans is almost on a par with 'Arry Redknapp!
I tend not to care about personalities too much and judge people on their service to the club, so I wish him well at Leicester.

I’m with you on that I don’t usually care what players/managers say but Martin was a colossal bell end I thought. I disliked him pretty much immediately and seemed obvious to me that his style was never going to work in the PL, and we got promoted to a degree in spite of his style rather than because of it.

His stubbornness in the PL seemed to change general opinion of him to most Saints fans, but I wasn’t that bothered by that. It was clear he wouldn’t change so I wasn’t that fussed by his attitude then. He just came across as a smug/arrogant twat the entire time and I never warmed to him. I also felt similar about Adkins so maybe I just don’t like successful Saints managers

Saints Alive

The unbeaten run was incredible and i can recall Tessem purring about Martin whilst driving in to town to watch a match. The results were better than the performances. Had we upgraded after promotion , i think Martin would gave enjoyed Adkin's -like status. As it was , we stuck with him and the PL campaign was worse than anticipated. Martin should have been binned in September at the latest.

For me, Still was a gamble which did not pay off. I think he would have eventually achieved promotion but maybe 2026 /27. I think he will come good but maybe it was too aoon for him in English football.

I don't dislike him as much as twitchy bollocks but there's nobody else I dislike more.

There are rumours he might be taking Bazunu off our hands - we should all love him!
