I think Jander will go unfortunately. I'm more hopeful about Leo but still not confident on him staying either.

First job for Saints is to extend Bree and Stewart and then sell Ramsdale. Even if it's for a reduced fee like 15mill we need to get his wages off the books pronto.

Jelert will not be staying.
What have you heard on Jelert?

Yeah this. There are very few of our squad that I would want if we were in the PL, Bree and Stewart are both on that list of “no thanks”.

Football is a business which the players will be very aware of so no problem in then seeking the best deal he can, and Saints trying to get the best deal they can. Now Larin has signed the thinking might be we don’t need Stewart as much, one year extension is all we will offer. Let another Champ team offer him a longer deal and take the risk if they want

Bree the same, one year deal so we can move on if we go up. If he can get better elsewhere then fair enough wouldn’t blame him for leaving.
I'd have no problem giving Bree two years. He's been pretty much indispensable since he came back and he'd be okay as second choice for a season in the Prem.

We really arent in a position to be overly worried about signing quality championship players in case they cant step up to the PL.

Build the best possible team for promotion. If you get promoted you have the funds to not worry about James Bree's wages, especially as you can always loan/sell

Sounds like there was an auto year extension that needed to be triggered within a certain amount of days after the last game of the season in his final year. We triggered it as soon as we knew that we were kicked out, but technically that was after the amount of days needed so his lawyers are saying we were too late.

We’ll have to offer him a whole new deal now as, even if it’s a technicality, it still makes us unable to trigger an auto extension. I assume we’ll put the offer on the table sooner rather than later but he’s well within his rights to see what else is out there.

I mean it sounds like to me that it’s just an unfortunate fall out of the club and Tonda ****ing our chances of promotion. Suck it up & give him 2 years. The club messed this whole season up for fans and players. Least they can do is answer every single players demands to keep this team together imo. It’s the least us fans deserve!

Also, I think Stewart (if fit) would actually be our best CF in Prem. Much more suited to that level than Larin. We’ll be needed a £40mi+ striker if we get back to big time I’m afraid and either we’d sell both for £10mill each to a top champ club or have 3 CFs battling out for that position imo

But the contract situation means it would make more sense for us to let Charles go this season.

For sure, but I just think Jander will have more interest and will demand a higher fee. With Charles having 1 year left, clubs will be offering considerably less and I just get the feeling that it will go later into the window if he’s going to be sold, in which case he’ll probs opt for a 1 year extension (or even better new contract altogether with higher salary) & give it beans to get us to go up. Also, he was our go to CM first half season then dropped down pecking order due to Jander playing so well (albeit due to injury too). With Jander gone I’m sure Tonda will give him guarantees to play every game & he may fancy being our most important player in a title winning season ;)

So is Stewart off then? I have no issue with a 1 year extension but 2 is a big risk. He spent 2/3 seasons injured, yes he was good when he played but we have paid him £3m in his time here.

I don't disagree with this, FWIW.
It’s a contract chaps. That makes it a legal document. He can’t just go along with what the club wants because vibes. We failed to activate the clause. It’s now between the agent and the club to sort a deal out, I wouldn’t rush to judge Ross because we didn’t do what we needed to at board level.

Charles has 1 year left and we have a 1 year extension option, so he effectively has 2 years remaining.

I can see us selling Charles for £20m/£25m this summer, then telling Jander he can go next year if we don't get promoted.

If we do plan on keeping one of them, then thats the best way to maximise sale value.

I think it helps us that Hackney is seemingly on the move. Partially as it will be funny for boro to lose him, but also because I can't see 3 teams spending £20m+ on championship centre midfielders.

With Hackney seemingly at the top of that list, it gives us a chance of keeping at least one of Jander or Charles.

Except Jander will go back to Germany I suspect.

Bundesliga clubs don't have the same spending power as Prem clubs though. It's only really the top sides that will spend 25m+ on a player, and I can't see them being interested in Jander just yet.
Exactly that. Only a select few German clubs would ever spend £20m on a player, and that isn't going to be someone from the Championship.
