An incredible end to an incredible season. We out worked and out fought them and then had quality in the key moments too.

Never in a million years did I think we'd be qualifying for Europe, say, five years ago when we were struggling to get out of League One. Barring Beale's time and the end of that season, our journey since Alex Neil took over in 2022 has been largely outstanding.

What a f**kwit Matterface sounded there.

He's just inadvertently made an argument for putting xG to bed. Have never thought it had any place in football conversations,

Did once work with someone who used to go to school with Matterface and didn't have many good words to say about him so this isn't surprising.

Fair play to Minto though for talking sense.
I've argued about xG for ages. It's a tool, an indicator, it's not the be all and end all but people in the media and some fans put for too much emphasis on it. I honestly blame computer games, it's let people with little knowledge of the game try to boil it down to facts and numbers and hide their lack of knowledge. At best it's a tool that coaches can use in conjunction with other tools and data.

I think that was the warmest day I can remember at the SoL - once you were out of reach of the cool sea breeze.
Having said that I had to move out of the shade, into the sun at the Fans Museum because I was freezing <laugh>

I put sun cream on my face and arms but forgot about my neck. It was glowing when I took my top off :emoticon-0111-blush

Superb!

Somewhere, and I'd love to see without up for wider enjoyment, there is a clip of Lineker asking Shearer about how Sunderland will do.

Linked says, " Will they finish above Newcastle? "
Shearer, in a contemptuous tone, " Don't be stupid".

Come on one of you techie guys. Find it and post it!!

Watch the "Trai Hume from every angle" video, and watch Xhaka around the 5m 20s mark.
He was off to join in the celebrations, but then turns around and acknowledges Roefs for going long.
I love that....in the heat of the moment he still done that. It would have been easy to do it after celebrating, but to do it when he did, I thought that was outstanding.
Our Captain.

I noticed that too. He's just amazing isn't he.

I don't even know what the **** xG is, and I can't be arsed to find out.

Some teams place more emphasis on attack, let in a fair amount of goals but score loads more.

Other teams place more emphasis on defence, they don’t score a shedload of goals but it doesn’t matter as they don't often concede.

Both are perfectly valid ways of playing.

Er - that's it.

We are absolute toast mind, on the brink of a financial catastrophe. What they have done to the club is horrific.

The Times did a comparison yesterday. It measured player costs, (wages, increments, agent's fees and amortisation figures) and set it against a calculus of where such spending could or should get you.

Pound for pound we were top. Arsenal second top by the way, with I think the fifth highest cash figure and winning the league, so well done to them too. You can guess at the other clubs who did well by this metric; those whose path we are following.

There was a small element of guesswork in some of the figures for the three promoted clubs, but this was not thought to be significant in their view. We had the lowest total spend of the 20 teams. A small element of this of course reflects the fact that we had no players on old PL contracts, but it is nonetheless a really remarkable achievement.

If any of the unbalanced and desperate characters who are seemingly enjoying their summer inventing comfort blanket theories want a bit of help, they might want to read that little precis above of the Times piece. Then get their uncle to explain it.
How can they do that? Most of them don't know who their fathers are let alone their uncle. <laugh>
