Kind of.

Football, like music, like most celeb adjacent jobs, are (rightly or wrongly) incredibly competitive to get into. The people that will survive in that environment are the types of people that aren't going to be arsed, or have enough backbone to take it if you have a demanding boss, or if you're called a c*nt now and again. Because you need that level of resilience to succeed. If you don't have that, there's a thousand other interns etc that will be keen to take your position.

Also, "bullying" is an emotive term, and one not actually used in The EFL report. It's all about context. Was it Salt that complained about that, or was it Taylor (who was sacked for being ****, but is now calling 'foul' and saying he was bullied. It's a microscopic moment away from him saying it affected his mental health). The fella clearly has an axe to grind, and has ground it with the help of El Gibbon. He's also demonstrably not cut out for a job in a competitive environment like sport.

Not all jobs, nor all job environments are equal. You'll have a very different response to being called a name if you're a teacher to if you're a nightclub bouncer, or a copper, or a football player. Jeeze, if people want to cry foul because they got asked to work on Christmas Eve (ffs!) then try working with celebs.

So I would personally need a LOT more context if I was to suggest that Tonda is a 'bully'. And I really wouldn't give a monkeys if that accusation came from Taylor. He's a tough boss? Good. Grow a pair and get on with it.

Totally agree and great comment!

I’ve worked around TV sets quite a bit and they genuinely call the celebs that do these hosting roles “talent”. Some ****ed hierarchy in that world and can only imagine it’s similar in football too. Strangely the biggest ****s I’ve found around those types of world are either huge “talent” with huge ego or the middle of ground people aspiring to be a “something”. There’s so much ego around those worlds whether sport, film or music, none of us will ever really know the dynamic.

What I will say, is it is pretty obvious that although a demanding, introverted figure, Tonda has clearly grown in confidence as our run did and maybe that went to his head a bit and he became more demanding than he needed to be & in turn more of a knob. Seen it happen a million times with head honchos, won’t be the last time but maybe this is the learning curve he needs to achieve greatness. Have to be young and stupid to be old and wise!

My youth must make me very wise!

They will announce their findings the day before the new season starts .
Tonda will get a one year ban .

So all this talk of do we stick with him or not is utterly irrelevant, and shortens the timescale to get a replacement in place .
Yep. All this talk of what to do with him is really just stating your own position on the cheating because I can’t see a world in which he isn’t banned. the club punishment was unprecedented but the bans are definitely not.

That's how I see it too. Though I do think it will be quicker than mid August.

They could easily stick him on gardening leave and release some guff about awaiting the FA investigation and maybe doing an internal review. It's not like he'd be doing much at the moment anyway. The only issues are what we do if the FA take ages to make a decision and whether we want to stir the pot after the press have moved on - doing that may bring the whole story back to life.

We should definitely be sounding out replacements though. If the FA take a similar line to the EFL he's getting banned for at least a year. Beyond the FA, the views of Solak, the players, sponsors and fans (probably in that order) will also be important.

Personally I think Parsons should go. I think a football guy would probably have handled all this better. He should be replaced by someone who at least knows sport, and ideally football. It won't happen but I'd be tempted to give Cortese a ring.

I guess Lallana could step in temporarily & have Tonda prepare all the pre match material…. Oh wait

When are the players back for pre season? Like the first week of July or something isn’t it usually?

Gives the club some time to decide what to do. Imagine we’ll know by mid June if Tonda is getting banned or not and then he’ll be fired either way shortly after

Yeah they will generally get 5/6 weeks off and be told to come back in at the tail end of the first week of July for fitness testing

See it coming a mile off couldn’t ya! More I sit on it, the more I think the FA will take sympathy with him at such a young age & difference in culture. He’s done a Bielsa and owned up in commission and think they might see that as a big factor. Never know they might even do some sort of “suspended sentence” plus a big fine

His contract is for another season…either we keep him (my favoured option) or we get some compo.

Never considered this! Clearly why the club gonna hold out too. Can’t see fifa getting involved in a World Cup year tbh.. enough on their plate without this joke. Plus they love corruption so they’ll probs find Tonda a new job themselves <laugh>

Might’ve been shared already today, but Ugly Inside has just done a blog around Tonda FA ban. Some of it bit over the top / bordering conspiracy (as I find UI is a lot of the time), that said there was one quote I thought actually makes a lot of sense to me:

“However there is rumours that the FA might intervene and ban Tonda Eckert etc, but that is far from clear cut, the issue here is that the offence of spying is not an FA offence, it is an EFL law.

The Premier League does not have that rule and it is legal for club's in that League to spy on their opponents, so the issue for the FA is two tier justice, how can they sanction a club or individual based not on the offence but purely on the competition that it takes place in.

I am no legal expert, but we have been tried and found guilty under EFL rules, so how can we be tried again and sanctioned for an offence that if committed by a Premier League manager would be completely legal.”

Would surely be difficult for the FA to ban across whole of England when not every league has same rules? Exactly the same situation with FIFA - surely they can’t ban in every league either as it’s not illegal in all of Europe and probably the rest of the world tbh.

This all just shows how much of a ridiculous ruling it is in the first place. The EFL will realise this & get rid within 5 seasons I think - much to our dismay!
