I did think the battles were good; it seemed like they have the boost system about right on this circuit — they seemed like they had to work for it.
It did seem a bit weird that so much of the field were lapped, considering how many safety cars/VSCs there were!

Boost system...

Feck me.. the sports pathetic atm.

And I love the sport.

:emoticon-0104-surprApparently everyone apart from the first 4 of Kimi, Lewis, Max and Charles were lapped

Thinking about how it took a couple of races for McLaren to understand how to use the Merc PU, i wonder how much midfield teams like Alpine and Williams are still leaving on the table. It's not just plug in a better engine and go faster like it used to be

Not a timed boost system though.

This all feels fake and forced.
True but this one is only timed to trigger it then valid for the entire lap.

I am probably in the minority that I quite like the electrical side of it but I do love the sound of the v8 and v10's.
I really wish there was a proper way that all the technology aspects had to be published like how efficient the ICE units are what technology they are using for the batteries etc..... The engineering behind it all is fascinating.

I just don't think the "pure" approach works with modern aerodynamics, and hasn't for a long time. If you go back and try to watch a race from 2010 and remove the nostalgia glasses, 90% of them are a bit ****.

If the boost mode can overcome dirty air a bit, while still giving the defender a chance, then it's doing it's job.

On that front it was better than DRS today (notice the defender usually held on), and better than the silly opening races. Though my complaint holds that the graphics don't explain what's happening with battery levels to the viewer

From Planet F1......
Russell launched his headrest in frustration and walked away, glancing back at his stranded Mercedes. The slamming of his gloves off track further demonstrated Russell’s frustration, after what could be a pivotal turning point in the championship.

To make matters worse, the stewards confirmed a post-race investigation into an “unsafe act” from Russell.

If we're at the point where we're punishing drivers for venting, rhen we might as well stick a fork in it.

The driver explained that he was extremely frustrated having failed to finish the race,

and expressed his embarrassment as what subsequently followed. He apologised to

the Stewards for his action and acknowledged that it did not set a good example and

offered to apologise publically.

He was fined $5000.
Suspended for 12 months .

Utterly pathetic IMHO .

Shame about Russell’s breakdown, I was enjoying his race with Antonelli, it was good to see them both going at it hard and fair and that it looks like neither is going to back down. The result was obviously excellent for Antonelli, but I think more than that, effectively matching Russell at what is probably his strongest track, is a going to give him the confidence that skill wise he has everything he needs to win this championship.

I agree, they shouldn`t fine a driver for showing disappointment and frustration in the heat of the moment. He didn`t throw the part at another driver or car,and it never landed onto a dangerous part of the track.Very poor stewarding on this and other decisions in the race.

This championship and many more I would think, and all this in only his second year in F1. This young man is the real deal.

If you think about the challenge George now has ahead of him, he needs to win 5+ more races than Kimi now. Even if Kimi has a DNF while George wins the race he still needs to win a further 3 more races than Kimi, assuming the Mercedes maintains it dominance over the other teams.
This was George's race to lose, sadly he did, through no fault of his own.
If both Kimi and Lewis beat him this season, Ouch!
