I think we need to get over the narrative that the spying was wasn’t bad because we did it badly.

If I set up a bank heist but then bungle it, I have still set up a bank heist, so the defence that we don’t gain anything useful is irrelevant. We did it. The question though should be is spying as bad as a bank heist or is it merely shoplifting a pint of milk.
No contest, it's so low key that even if we had done it well, it wouldn't be that big of a deal. Other teams across the world can do it, even in the Premier League apparently!

A fine would have sufficed, we didn't even benefit from any of the spying!!

You can't possibly know that we didn't benefit and whether we did or not is irrelevant - as the panel wrote in their judgement 'sporting advantage doesn't mean sporting success'.

We gained an advantage over our opposition, no matter the size that is undeniable.

Yeah I get that but it begs the question is spying worse than most of these player offences? And not just spying, but spying badly with an I phone behind a tree!

If so that is mental! And the over reaction by the fans is mental too.

Before the verdict, we all new Tonda was almost certainly complicit, not many of us were calling for his head then! We should be fuming that these are the punishments for a crappy attempt at spying. Yeah I know it's now a law etc but Bielsa did it, Fergie used helicopters, arsenal players admitted they got intel so Wenger was doing it, Liverpool hacked City's database so Klopp new about it.

Think we need to be realistic about what we have actually done here. We are all pissed off because we should be at Wembley today but I do not want to go searching for yet another manager, especially with SRs track record!

We have a great Manager right now, ban or no ban, back him, he will be grateful, he will repay us, we won't get better than him for a long long time. Forget morals, there are not many morals in football, if there were the huge sums of money would not be going to players, it would be going to grass routes, youth, community, subsidising tickets prices, shirt prices etc.

It's time we toughened up, I've had it with all this soft as **** woke bullshit. We spied, we didn't match fix, we didn't bet against us, we didn't give all the players performance enhancing drugs.

We need to stand together, get as many of the players on side too, we should all be pissed mostly at the punishment, the potentially biased panel, Gibsons strong operation, entrapment much?? Surely that goes against the rules of being nice to your neighbour!!

I'm gutted we got kicked out but there is a chance we would have lost the final anyway and I would be more gutted to lose Tonda quite frankly.
I agree there's a degree of virtue signalling here. "Oh my goodness... spying? How awful! We had no idea this thing that's happened in football for decades and makes no real difference to anything was still happening. We MUST stamp it out." I agree with you that I don't think spying should be a specific offence at all and I don't think it is in most competitions. That doesn't really matter though because it's a separate discussion. The rule IS in place and the club HAS been given a tough punishment already.

I think there's every chance the FA will consider multiple examples of spying on other teams (including pressurising junior staff into doing it when they don't want to) worse than what the Canadians did and give Tonda a longer ban. Part of the reasoning for that is the cases you cite (players pushing referees etc) are mainly things done by individuals in the heat of the moment, while this is something pre-meditated that has already been called "a contrived and determined plan".

Let’s hope not, would be the biggest meltdown in history. They can just go for the vanilla option and kick us out of the football league but let us stay professional

It's quite clearly completely made up lol.

Though some will believe it which is pretty funny tbf.

My angry view on Tonda is beginning to wain, it's a long way to go, but, just a thought, that a man on a mission to right the wrongs, may be someone not to mess with. He must be aware that we don't need to cheat to succeed. Still a lot of water to flow under the Itchen Bridge before we can forgive and we can never forget.

None of us cared when we found out we had been spying, we only cared when we found out the ridiculous punishment.

I'm not saying Tonda and the club should get a complete pass, but its the efl that have really f*cked us as fans.

The most likely overall impact of this business is that EFL legislation will be tightened and that there will be efforts to ensure that there is consistency with the FA rules. Cubs will be signed up to abide by the tighter rules and penalties will be more clearly defined. Things like penalties, forfeiting of results and points deductions will be codified. The miss is as much about Saint's inept and naive approach to spying is only matched by the EPL's lack of preparedness in dealing with the complaint. The rules would have to include appeals and the impact of withholding information.
