There is to be a cordon around the hilton and the pool, I understand it's gonna be a lockdown for away fans, that's a shame cos we like meeting Cov fans who like a beer and shout a lot.

That's a shame for anyone wanting to mix with their more lively supporters, I'm sure the Wheatsheaf was looking forward to seeing them.

It'll make the atmosphere round the Hilton a bit tense and won't do those arriving independently, by train and cars, any favours.

There'll be lots of Sunderland on the streets and the walk over the bridge could be gripping for them.

I’m expecting to see little pockets of trouble dotted about I only tend to go in the museum then to the ground but considering just heading straight to the ground tbh

It seems jinxes, 'typical Sunderland' and bogey teams are a thing of the past <cheers>

We've come up from L1 winning the play off final at Wembley, come up from the Championship after winning the play off final at Wembley, avoided relegation by spending a huge amount on quality players, we've won in London, done the double over Newcastle and are currently above them, we lie in the top half of the Premier League with one home game to go.

Despite all of these incredible achievements, and many more ...

... it seems that, according to a post tonight, it would be 'Typical Sunderland' to fail to qualify for Europe.

<laugh>

FFS, how incredibly untypical of Sunderland to have won twice at Wembley, beaten our 'bogey team' Coventry, easily avoided relegation, come back from a home thrashing by Newcastle, etc etc etc. Does any defeat, for the next hundred years count as 'typical Sunderland'.

If we can't just enjoy what we've achieved, this season, without insisting we're cursed then ...

... perhaps it's a self fulfilling prophecy!

Change 'typical Sunderland' so it means to work our bollocks off combined with skill, commitment, togetherness and a never say die attitude. Job done!

FFs man, unbelievable 12 months we've had and if everybody stands together next weekend we're on the cusp of doing something we've not done in over 50 years.

Madness.

Saying 'typical Sunderland' has just become a bit lazy and stupid tbh.

You might've been justified saying it if we'd blown it against Wycombe or folded when Sheff Utd went ahead.

You could be justified in saying it was typical of the club to be promoted, fail to invest and go straight back down ...

... but there's nothing typical about planning, investing and succeeding in the way we have.

Sadly I've seen nothing to compare with this in my lifetime.

I'm sort of thinking that a European campaign would have a severe negative effect on our league form next season. So it would be 'Typical Sunderland' if we qualify, as far as I'm concerned <laugh>

Seriously though, even though my concerns could be legitimate, whats the point in trying if we turn our noses up at the prospect of European football? This may be the closest we get for another 50 years.

Yeah, I think we're at the point whereby people need to see us in Europe to get that monkey off our back tbh. Since Newcastle won that cup we've needed to get back at them. The two derby results have helped but it's only by beating Chelsea to get into Europe, that we know we'll finish top NE team.

The club will already be planning the squad to either get into Europe or improve in the PL ...

... so it's a win win for me mate.

I had a long chat with 2 Palace fans about their experiences in Europe this season and they were saying it was SO GOOD but it definitely affected their league performances.
If we strengthen as well as we did last summer then we have a great chance of doing well in both.
These chances don’t come around very often so when they do you have to take them <cheers>

And I have absolute full faith that KLD et al. will go out this summer and blow our minds once again if we do (we will) succeed next weekend.

Bring on the summer and next season, I can't bloody wait!

I am up for Europe , Milan would be good
If we qualify and have got to play Atlanta, Bergamo shares an airport with Milan and is only a shortish train journey between the two.
(Not been there but was looking at going to Bergamo for a short holiday earlier this year but the prices for hotels were ridiculous so I didn't bother. I forgot that the Winter Olympics were on when I was looking to go, which is why things were so pricey then!)

Ryanair do Newcastle to Bergamo. You can pick up cheap flights if you're flexible.

I went back packing round northern Italy a couple of years ago and the flights were dead cheap.

We're thinking about doing a San Siro trip next season using Bergamo flights.
