Boro
although Southampton showed in the first leg they are not as untouchable as some thought and they really should have got beat, they are still in great form and would rather play Boro
although if we play like last night would give either a game

**** me, I am conflicted.

My family, Son, Daughter, Grandkids and virtually everyone I know here are all Southampton.

If the Saints get through, it means it will be harder for me to get to Wembley! So it has to be Boro!

I want Southampton to be expelled from the play-offs because Spygate 2 was such blatant cheating, and it came after the new rules were all introduced so they have no excuse. However, I guess I'd prefer Boro win the second leg because otherwise Gibson will go in all guns blazing legally, perhaps even seeking an injunction to stop the final taking place until the whole mess is sorted out. Which could affect us mentally. In footballing terms, though, we're capable of beating either of them based on last night's performance. It doesn't mean we will, but we have at least a fifty fifty chance against either of them.

Combined results against the pair of them this season;

P4 W3 D0 L1 F7 A6

We've nothing to fear from either (so long as it's not Boro and they rearrange it to the Friday night).

Feels like we always struggle against Boro even when we win, whereas we seem tomokay well against Southampton. So Southampton for me. Plus I find Boro fans annoying and have a higher potential to be ****s around the ground and going there and back, especially as we'd be going the same way.

I think Southampton will beat Boro tonight, they had their chance on Saturday at home and couldn't get there.

Not really fussed who we get to be honest but as you say,if Boro get to the play-offs there'll be mixed trains down and up and it makes for a reasonable chance of trouble...Something no-one needs!

For those interested in Spygate 2 (and I think it's fascinating, because I don't think Boro will let it drop or allow the EFL to come up with some wishy washy fine) there's a very good podcast here from the Northern Echo

if southampton win tonight
they should be kicked out
and we automatically win the final in my humble opinion

Leeds got a £200k fine for pretty much doing the same thing, so it's likely they'll get a similar penalty.
I think that is very unlikely because the Leeds fine was BEFORE a specific rule was introduced banning such activities. Leeds' fine was for unsporting behaviour or similar. You can be certain that if Southampton win, Boro will not let this drop. Gibson has fought for promotion for so long and is by all accounts a pretty decent owner. They will be legalled up to the nines and they will push for expulsion, and -- to be honest -- that is the only fair outcome. That might play into our hands. Boro would be coming into the final on the back of a loss ...

Southampton win and then kicked out a week later would be nice. Either give us a bye in the final or draft in Boro after a week of not training

Boro's manager has planned for them to continue training upto the final, even if they lose. In case Southampton get kicked out

Southampton have 14 days to respond, starting 4 days ago, if they kicked Southampton out (assuming they won tonight), it would leave Boro only a a day to sort ticket sales, that's not going to happen.

I thought they already had responded, basically admitting the charge - but allegedly they are claiming the spy was acting without the club’s authority. A claim which — if he’s an employee — is clearly untenable.

They're trying to fast-track it, but it doesn't sound like there's much chance of Southampton being kicked out of the play-offs...

The EFL acted by bringing in rule 127, which states that "no club shall directly or indirectly observe (or attempt to observe) another club's training session in the period of 72 hours prior to any match".

Late on Friday, Southampton were charged with a breach of rule 127 and also rule 3.4, which requires clubs to "act towards each other with the utmost good faith".

Saints would usually have 14 days to respond to the charges, but the EFL has asked the independent disciplinary commission to fast-track the case.

It is unclear what disciplinary measures will be open to the EFL, if the case is proven.

The fine handed to Leeds provides precedent, but that came before the specific regulation existed.

The EFL does not comment on active cases but there appears to be no suggestion at the moment that Southampton could be thrown out of the play-offs.
