What is it that drives the mag's hatred of Arsenal? Surely it can't be the FA Cup final result almost 30 years ago? Was in my local club when West Ham 'scored' that late equaliser that was ultimately ruled out, and the mags were all cheering like it was their team. Bizarre.

Newcastle have West Ham next and losing to them would keep Sunderland above them ...

... perhaps they're worried about that, who knows.

Just watched him again on YouTube, he certainly knows how to let rip <laugh>

Just a daft theory on my part, but it's silly enough to be a factor. I've met a fair few Arsenal fans over the years who've genuinely been complimentary about us as a club and fans (met a few arseholes as well!). As well I was told years ago that Jimmy Montgomery and Bob Wilson were pretty good friends and I remember Charlie George being complimentary about us and very down on the mags before the 1998 FA cup final. It's daft enough that in their tiny minds that they don't like Arsenal just because Arsenal have been nice to us in the past, the old "the enemy of my enemy is my friend, the friend of my enemy is my enemy" thing. Knowing how thin skinned most mags are, if Arsenal fans have sung a few Sunderland songs at them to wind them up, they'd definitely take it to heart and react, which would only make Arsenal fans do it more to wind them up. The mags love to dish it out but can't take it when it's dished back at them.

Then if you add in that Arsenal are the kind of club the mags want to be but are no where near that jealousy just boosts it a bit more.

It's a daft theory, I know, but it honestly wouldn't surprise me.

It's difficult to say with Newcastle, they've gone through phases of creating ludicrous grudges and fake rivalries.

Some of their 'fiercest rivals' include Man Utd, Liverpool, Barcelona, Leeds, Arsenal and Spurs.

I doubt any of them ever gave a shiny ****e about Newcastle but they were burning up inside about it all.

Some of the 'reasons' are Alex Ferguson calling them insignificant, Gazza signing for Spurs, Man Utd signing Cole, Liverpool laughing at them after the 4-3, etc etc etc. Their sense of entitlement/inferiority makes them the Coventry of the PL, always wanting a rival but never finding one they can get the better of.

On Friday, Alnwick Town Ladies will play against Ponteland United Women at Croft Park in Blyth for the Northumberland Football Association (NFA) Women's Cup final - but the recent men's final was held at Newcastle's St James' Park.
Alnwick Town Ladies coach Lee Barrass said: "It's not right on any level of society, let alone sport - it's the same cup and competition."
I seem to recall at the start of the season Middlesbrough and Sunderland gave big support to a charity runner and Newcastle refused to help.
Is SOL free on Friday?

Aren't the scum at home this weekend? Remember the thousands of hours they needed to prep for the derby loss... maybe they are thinking of something similar for their last home game

It is an imaginary rivalry, they think they are on the same level. They still feel that way about Man Utd. Both of these clubs only notice the Saudis when they make yet another ridiculous exhibition of themselves.
