There was an article claiming other clubs had contacted M’Boro over Saints doing it to them and were “gathering evidence”. Only way I can see they could get evidence is, now Boro have an image of the Saints staff member spying, other clubs can check their CCTV and see if that person was there on the days leading up to our game with them. Seems like a lot of effort but I’m no expert on how easily that could be done

Well i wonder why other clubs would want to do that ?

Surely we aren’t the only club doing it ?

Anyway , we’ll see .

Just leaves a nasty feeling .

FWIW , I think we will forfeit our place to Boro , though I get that’s a simplistic view , it’s the only one I can get my head around as an instant punishment .

My last comment on it until we know the official outcome .

The Guardian have a real hard on for us. In their article they make out that other clubs ‘May’ come forward as they could not see how we defended their set pieces. They then admit (to cover their arses) that it may be Tonda is good

“Meanwhile, other second-tier clubs have shared with the Guardian their surprise at the ease with which Southampton adapted to supposedly unexpected team shapes and appeared able to second-guess set-piece routines during an unbeaten run of 19 league games towards the end of the season. That may, however, have been down purely to the tactical skill of Eckert, a 33-year-old former analyst of the German national team who took charge last November.”

I think they are using the old throw enough mud and some will stick.

<laugh><laugh><laugh>

Essentially...
We lost to Southampton, and they are being accused of cheating, so yeah, we probably also lost to them for that reason as otherwise surely we would have won.

What is the betting that the intern does turn up on some CCTV footage at another club?

The interesting question is whether this behaviour is actually widespread. The Guardian should be looking at the issue throughout the EPL and not just Saints. It is funny that the media seems to be quite silent about the detail and how little speculation there is. Nothing in the BBC or other nationals but local newspaper coverage reporting the issue with the Daily Echo being impartial and not taking any regional bias what so ever. The comments section on the Echo site is more damning of Saints than on this board.

CCTV is not normally kept for long though so doubt anything will come of this.

Have to say though I do find it hilarious the idea of Boro circulating this image and loads of clubs frantically checking their CCTV.
Yep I bet CCTV isn’t kept beyond 90 days, though that does cover a good part of our run.

I can safely say that our unbeaten run isn’t down to cheating, but just down to the fact that we have been bloody good.

Probably be even less than that. Doubt a football club would need to keep 3 month's worth of their training ground.

Just been thinking a bit more about this.

It is going to an independent panel. We keep quiet saying we are helping with inquiries and you have Hellberg shouting out calling us cheats. Surely the word alleged needs to be in there.

I actually think all this Boro bleating is going to shoot them in the foot. You accuse someone of doing something and then let the lawyers deal with it. You don’t go on every interview to anyone who will listen and call them cheats.

Also, a lot of things don’t add up. If I was, say Wrexham, why would I go to Boro and say “hey I think they watched us too”. Wouldn’t you go straight to the EFL?

I say this to MrsNo7 a lot that sometimes if I have done something to piss her off (lol quite regularly), she overplays her outrage card and goes from being wronged to being in the wrong.

This could play into our hands tomorrow, let’s stuff them.

Under EFL Regulations, Southampton would ordinarily have 14 days to respond to the charges. However, given the nature of the matter, the EFL will ask the Independent Disciplinary Commission to shorten the response period and to list a hearing at the earliest opportunity.
Why the haste? They change their own rules to suit themselves. Could it be to help us if the allegations are false, or is it an attempt to speed up the process to shaft us as soon as is possible? Time will tell.
