The upshot for many is that the ability to re-house last minute spares simply dies - I`ve got my ticket for Wolves away - there is a 50/50 chance that work will "get in the way" (I`ve got a trial starting on the following Monday and a mediation to try and settle the case on the Friday - if we settle I can go, if we don`t I`ll be working all weekend to get the final bits sorted for the Monday - I can hear the violins already!).
As "one of the 65" I don`t want to fall foul of the ticket office...
So I emailed them and set out the above...the reply being that if I can let them know on Thursday then the club can resell it - when I reminded them that I won`t know until Friday (probably late on) - the reply was "I can do my best to sell the ticket but I really can`t guarantee".
The thing is, I could previously guarantee it by asking the lad with the ban to re-house it...I wouldn`t want paying anything for the ticket - I`d simply ask whoever got it to chuck a few quid into a charity of his/her choosing...the outcome is that there is going to be a spare seat if I can`t go...
I also don`t trust the ticket office not to give it to a "pal" of someone within the ticket office...
You've hit a few nails on a few heads there mate.
Many of the tickets that are passed on are given away or with the promise of a pint at some point in the future.
As an exile you'll also know that tickets are exchanged on the day, or day before, when it's already too late for Sunderland based people to arrange transport, etc. I've passed on tickets to people on the Isle of Wight, Devon, Kent, etc as they've been able to get there sharpish. You'll also know people totally unconnected to either 'the buyer or seller' have carried tickets south to be passed on ...
... the whole 'organisation' is much more efficient than the ticket office to be honest.
What the ticket office clearly don't grasp is that the ticket cost is the least of it. Yes, we can all swallow £30 if we find we can't make it at the last minute but we can't always cancel trains, hotels, etc. So there's £150/200 gone south when someone else, without adequate points, could've gone.
But who is going to risk even giving a ticket away if their mate is ID checked ...
... supporters are being virtually criminalised for going to watch their team.
It's all way out of hand and needs sorting before the national media make an example out of Sunderland as the ticket office has with the 'Derby Day 65'.
