Yeah he’s not someone I’d be in a hurry to sign permanently but he’s doing well so far. Might change my mind on him if we don’t go up. I believe the buy clause is something like £2.5m

Also worth noting that we have barely mentioned Armstrong since he left which, so far, confirms my long held suspicion that we would be better without him being greedy as **** up front

He’s exactly what you want from a Championship striker and one of the things we were woefully short of in the first half of the season.

I still have some doubts on him. I don't think he is as good as Che, for example. But yes, in terms of his positive attributes, they are indeed what is needed in this league. It's just crazy that we decided to go and sign Downs, when there were multiple options out there - for relatively minor fees - who would have been far better fits. The likes of Moore, Morris and McBurnie. We paid more for a much lesser player (Hamburg were 2-0 up when Downs came on after 67 mins yesterday - they were 3-2 down 17 mins later and he completed zero passes).

It feels like we thought we were better than those players. Like it took us six months to swallow our pride and accept what is needed for this league.

The thought of Downs playing against the likes of Dortmund is f*cking hilarious. I guarantee the reason the tide turned so dramatically in that game is because basically Damo came on and f*cking jogged his way around the centre circle for half an hour rather than doing any actual pressing of the opposition. Seriously think us and Hamburg would be better just playing with ten men.

We were trying to sign one who we (incorrectly) thought could develop and help in this league and then do a job in the league up

Moore and McBurnie would just be players we would need to try and sell if we secured promotion. Just like how if we did go up I would not expect us to sign Larin permanently

We gambled because as a result we might not go up. And we need to try and sell Downs anyway. All transfers are a gamble.

Plus, Larin can actually take a penalty.

Agree. Good buy if we are in champ, but nor prem quality

Ross and Cyle are out of contract at the end of the year as it stands. Whatever league we are in you'd absolutely need one here next year.

Given that Ross can't stay fit for a sustained period, you'd probably have to say Larin is needed for next year..

He's a perfect championship striker and we are fairly likely to spend a at least one of the next 2 years in the championship. We need to squad plan like Fulham did a few years back when they Yo-yo'd. We need players to be here for 3/4 years to help establish a proper mentality and be happy as part of that ride. I'm thinking like Harrison Reed and Tom Carney vibes.

This will go one of two ways.

He will be e next Mbappe, score 20 goals in the remaining third of the season, get a hat trick in the play off final and propel us to the PL. He will then go on to star in the World Cup and although we were interested in signing him, he will go to Liverpool for £90m.

He will make Damian Downs look like Mbappe.
That's aged well.

Set your sights low, and you can never be disappointed.

Nah, all seriousness, I'm glad he's proven me wrong. Been huge throughout this half of the season.

Chance at double figures in half a season - think he was a bargain really and wouldn't be adverse to signing him permanently regardless.

If we are still in the championship then that rate can see him getting 20 across the season and we'd need to sort out what to do with Stewart, Archer and Downs anyway.

Get promoted and he's still a solid option and we'd still need to sort out the rest still.
