Is it complacency? Arrogance? Mental tiredness? So many errors creeping into that first half. They’re playing like we’ve already got promotion wrapped up and we’re on the beach. Atrocious attitude.

Why are hoping Walton’s long balls is going to unlock their defence? He rarely finds a Town shirt lumping long. Kipre’s looking shaky - but has weirdly made the most ambitious and creative passes in their half! Greaves keeps drifting at centre back giving them space down their right. Neil has been awful. How many touches has Nunez made? Wingers non-threatening. Hirst has been a liability at both ends.

We need to wake up and take the game to them. Been nowhere near good enough tonight.

Second half is a bit more open and our subs have made a bit of a spark - but it will be some effort to get anything from this game.

As Royston says, a resurgent Southampton now looking like a credible threat. Especially considering the game in hand is another trip down south to St Mary’s.

Definitely feels like a case of after the Lord Mayor’s Show. Don’t know if it’s complacency but we don’t seem up for it and they want it more. 20 mins to get something from this.

So by the time we kick off on Sunday we could be down to third and level on points with Southampton, what a difference a couple of days make!

2-0 defeat and a really abject result and performance. Terrible mentality and we struggled to create anything of note really. Last weekend showed all the positive strengths of this season’s Town side, but tonight we saw all the negative hallmarks on full display. I feel bad for the supporters who made that long travel, because there was nothing to celebrate.

Automatic promotion is still in our hands, but with tough games against Middlesbrough and Southampton - not to mention more away trips than home games - it might be a case of play off football with the way Southampton are in full steam.

Nobody came away with any plaudits, but hopefully McKenna resists the urge to rotate and sticks with a full strength side game-to-game now. If he does, I’d like to see more Greaves, less Kipre; Davis at left back; Taylor in midfield, not Neil; Philogene on the left; and Mehmeti at 10.

Well damn, undoes all the good work from Saturday. It's moments like this which keep creeping in which is why this team struggles to win the hearts of the fans in the same way. Statistics can never out win heart.

Still in our Hands, but now will need to beat Southampton to make it happen. Unless the others in the race drop points.

Lots of dusting selves down to do and McKenna needs to earn some more stripes.

Hasn't this been whats it's been like most of the season? I can probably name the number of games on one hand which have left me feeling much joy this season. We're a really tough watch.

This was an awful game. Not sure why McKenna chose to split up O'Shea and Greaves especially when Johnson has so ably filled in at LB. To be fair I thought again O'Shea was outstanding tonight, even at RB he was the only player at the end of the game who was superb defensively but also driving the team forwards.

I thought first half most were poor/average Clarke was okay but as soon as he was put on the right he stopped looking like a footballer. MacAteer whilst not his best game was offering a threat in behind, that was lost as soon as he went off. I thought Nunez was awful, couldn't find a team mate even when he had time and space, a few times he didnt even need to make the pass.

Matusiwa and Neil were non existent first half. What's the point of having footballers in midfield, I feel like this team the CBs are being asked to do what midfielders used to do and the midfielders play like CBs used to. Hirst was poor but he didn't have much to work with, mainly working with has back to goal which isn't his strong point and far easier to defend against.

I was confused by McKenna's first round of subs but to be fair I thought it led to the best spell of the game with the exception of putting Clarke on the right I thought we started to control the midfield with Nunez and Neil and we started to create some opportunities. This was lost when McKenna decided to replace Neil with Akpom, no idea why he did this for me at that point the obvious change would've been to bring Azon on for Hirst.

Still comfortably in our hands but we've got massive games ahead of us which you could call 6 pointers. I'm still not confident this team have got it in them to do it. We've been lucky those around us have fluffed their lines, I'm hoping Southampton will too at some point.

No excuses that was a poor performance. We should have done better with our team selection, desire, and effort. Breaking up partnerships unwise too, like Greaves & O'Shea were a rock in defense for weeks. Kipre was miserable. Nunez nowhere.

Wonder what Chappers thought of it all?

We now have an interesting last few games, need to field our strongest team in their proper places and no experiments please!

Poor game.

Matusiwa has been off it in the last couple of matches, Nunez was poor, especially in the 10 role. Hirst's first touch was terrible for most of the match. Clarke was threatening on the left, did nothing on the right.

Like others, got no idea why Greaves was at LB instead of at LCB.

Even trying to go to some sort of 4-14-1 or whatever it was we attempted bringing Akpom on didn't help either. The play was rushed, shots taken when the ball should've been passed, passes made when there should've been shots.

No real harm done, Saturday is the far more important game. We'll need to get something from that so that the nerves don't really start jangling.

That's football its been said that 'its a funny ol'game', i think that we sometimes look to be on the front foot and forget that the opposition might try to score against us and try to get the ball of us, i don't go along with the notion players are not trying not giving it their all or not wanting it just because the 'fans' don't see them running around like a headless chicken.
It wasnt a great game but until they scored i thought we were comfortable then lost it for a few minutes and found ourselves 2 down.

Now's the time to step up and support.

We’ve not been that bad for a while, that was arguably the worst we’ve played all season. I disagree that we look complacent, arrogant, or bad this season. Before last night, we hadn’t lost a game since late February. The performance and commitment levels have always been high under a McKenna Ipswich side, with the exception of the second half of the Premier League season. Yes, we have a habit of grinding out wins, but I’ve rarely seen us outplayed this season. Last night just felt like the players were coming down from the high of beating Norwich and hopefully it was just a bad day at the office. But no bones about it, it was a disappointing result and we’re making things much harder for ourselves. Credit to Pompey though - had a gameplan and they are fighting for survival.

This Ipswich team is often defined by who scores first. Most of the time, it’s been us that gets the first goal. That allows us to sit back a bit and control the game. Most worrying for me is when the opposition score first, we often struggle and heads can drop. That’s best demonstrated by the fact we’ve only won once this season when we’ve gone behind.

Another trend is that we often step it up against the better teams in this division. We’ve beaten league leaders, Coventry twice. When was the last time we did that? We did the double over Norwich - for the first time in three decades. But away from home against poorer sides on paper - there’s an issue. Defeats to teams like Portsmouth, Oxford, and Leicester (despite their strength “on paper”) is a cause for concern considering upcoming trips to Charlton and West Brom. At this point, I’m more confident about beating Middlesbrough at Portman Road on Sunday than the mid-week trip to Charlton next Wednesday!

And if we do go up, what’s the state of play? Are going to need to do another transfer splurge? Do we trust Ashton and the team to do this successfully considering the mixed recent record. Can we confidently claim that the goalkeepers, Furlong, Greaves, Kipre, Neil, Taylor, and pretty much all our attacking players are truly Premier League ready?

I generally look to avoid comparing this team to the last promotion side - because it ignores the momentum, much more vocal support, and surprise factor we had on every other team that year - but really the only three things we do better now is defending, control possession, and handle higher expectations. In terms of pretty much everything else - points total, mentality, system, and goals scored - we’re way off it.

Put aside claims of entitlement and jinxing things, but for me - the true test of this team isn’t how we get promoted, it’s whether we then do better and survive in the Premier League next season. If we don’t make it, then it’s been a failure of a season and questions need to be asked of everyone at the club. We’ve got to keep the faith though and trust in this team and McKenna to live up to expectations and get us over the line.

True we haven't been that bad in a few weeks, mind you we still haven't really hit any great form this season and appear to be unable to produce over 90 minutes, which is concerning considering the amount of quality we have. It surprises me this far into the season that we've never really looked like being able to control the midfield. And many of the players still struggle to do basic things on the ball like pass, control and knowing when to release the ball, they really don't look like many have cost upwards of £10million. Some haven't cost us that much but are keeping others out of the team who have!!

I wouldn't accuse the players of downing tools, no effort or arrogance but many of them dont look hungry or united as a team. The team 2 years ago was greater than the sum of it's parts, this one is the opposite.

I have to say I've seen very little control from us of games. We have a lot of possession when teams sit off us mainly in the CB positions, when the opposition usually are allowing us to have the ball but we never control the midfield.

Despite all this we genuinely have a good chance of going up, and this team has averaged 2 points per game pretty much all season, if we do that over the next 5 games we're home and dry. The challenge is we have 2 really difficult fixtures in Southampton and Middlesbrough and 3 of the 5 are away games and our away record this season is really poor.

From my eye this team would need strengthening far more than the one which we went up with 2 years ago. I would say only O'Shea and Matusiwa would be perhaps good enough at that level and they both have had a few poor performances this season. And what we saw from our team a couple of years ago is McKenna takes time to blend it, he worked with that team a good season before things really started to click and he named a consistent starting 11. We've not seen that from this team despite the obvious talent the balance and connections aren't there, we're not getting the best out of what we have performance wise. It looks like we'd need to rip it all up again for next season and again I think it would be highly unlikely McKenna will be able to pull a team together to play how he wants that quickly.
