Need to bear in mind that under the new ffp rules qualifying for europe can be financially limiting.

If you're in euro competitions you can only spend 70% of your revenue as opposed to 115% next season, 85% thereafter if you don't qualify.
Last season our revenue was £40m, this season its expected to be around £110m, so we'd be limited to £77m rather than £115m. We're still building and will need a bigger squad for Europe so we'll be needing every penny of that.

(Conference only pays about £20m, £20-40m for europa league)

Champions league or nowt!

(and yeah I know, I'm taking it for granted we've got easy access to £115m)

I’m quite sure that if KLD wants to qualify he won’t hold back.

Even qualifying for a minor European tournament would get that monkey off our back and alert a few more agents, players, etc.

Playing a few matches wouldn’t cripple the squad if we had a bit of luck with injuries etc. I expect we’d use the loan market and hopefully bring a few reserves through.

In all honesty I just trust the club so happy with whatever happens.

Without doubt we’d also have huge sponsorship’s lined up though, unprecedented in size for us. Let’s get the hower done. :1980_boogie_down:

If we win v Spurs, which we should because they are gone mentality wise, it’s on.

As Smug mentions there’s a lot of games we’re rivals have to drop points (we only really have the Everton game that slots in there, and we’ve been better than them twice this season already), then we likely sitting in striking distance and you’d hope that’s the final motivation the lads need.

We in the wonderful space that we don’t expect it, don’t have any delusions that it’s our right, and that if we fail the season has been stunning regardless.

Imagine us lot away to Sparta Prague man. Absolute bedlam <laugh>
All I want for Christmas is a Dukla Prague away strip...
...or something like that :emoticon-0140-rofl:

Good post mate. We need to upgrade capacity in the stadium to increase revenue before we're ready for Europe. We need to walk before we run. These financial rules can be destructive and require very astute management.

Just spent the day as a matchmaker for a relatively ultra right wing rural Mayor and an entirely ultra right wing journalist/internet personality.

Assumed this was about right wing waffle. Had it for several hours.

The **** we do to pay our mortgages.

Just having a think about the World Cup and which players will be thinking twice about pulling out of challenges.

I've no idea how many players have valid expectations of making the final squads ...

... but I'm hoping teams like Spurs have more than us.

In recent times Sunderland might've had minor players but we now have significant stars.

Hopefully none come back limping.

Was thinking. Of the next 4 games we play, 3 on paper are winnable. Aston Villa you just don't know how they will perform. We then have 3 games two at home against teams vying for Champions League. Get the right number of points in the next 4 games then go for Champions League and see where we go from there. Aim high and anything below is a bonus rather than aim low and fail

This is the time for freak results which happen every season ...

... it's been our turn for all kinds of things so no harm in thinking we can get lucky.

None of Spurs, Forest, Man Utd and Chelsea at home frighten me ...

... Villa, Wolves and Everton away aren't like playing Arsenal or Man City.

There are loads of games where European contenders play each other so, come on!!!

Have i got this right?

Top 5 will qualify for the Champions League?
6th Place qualifies for the Europa League
If a Team that finishes in the Top 5 win the FA Cup, 7th Place will qualify for the Europa League
Man City as winners of the League Cup qualify for the Conference League, but if they finish top 5 their place in the Conference league will go to 8th place.

I think thats right from what I have read today
Getting easier to qualify than not
:-)

Was thinking about this. Now there are at least 5 clubs in the Champions League and potentialy european qualification down to 9th place what is the clubs ambition. Given where we are and the points accrued surely the dream for the club and players is to at least match the reidy days of 7th. Reach that will give European football. Luck in other european comps where English teams could win might even bring Champions League down to 6th or 7th. This is the time to dream and prey our players want to emulate the teams of reidy and create their own piece of history. Let us believe

Steve Bruce had a freak end to the season when we shot up the table on the last day ...

... no reason RLB can't repeat that in my opinion.

I can't remember the details, off hand, but it was a real surprise.

I think we won at West Ham, in the final game, and everything else fell into place.

Been busy today so missed the RLB presser and other football news.

I'm just catching up now and there's a very weird, but obvious, split.

Eddie Howe, the journalists, the supporters, etc, are talking about Palace away as the start of the push for Europe.

Sunderland, a point ahead with a home game against a relegation side, don't seem to want to mention Europe.

So for everyone who might think I'm jinxing things ...

... Europe

I think from our side its a little bit of lowering expectation publicly, behind closed doors i think it'll be talked about, possibly even aimed for.

On a Newcastle side they think its their divine right to be in Europe and also probably need the money
