I dont like getting into players, squad, who should be playing and how they performed. Mainly because it's opinions and mine are often wrong. Sergei sees them in training must have a plan and reasoning for doing what he does. Joseph may do a lot of running but it's goals that count and his final decision making often let's him down. Gelhardt has goals but seems to blow hot and cold, Mcburnie started of so well we expect that every game and may not always be fully fit.
I don't get the need to always start swapping and changing things at the end, why do we need to use all the allowed subs,
How often have we managed to go two consecutive games with the same back 4/5?

4231 with as much familiarity as possible please Sergei. Slater and Amir in midfield, Crooks in the 10, McBurnie upfront with Joseph or Millar left and Gelhardt or Belloumi right. Defense is whoever is fit and can play. If Hughes is out then Drameh Egan Ajayi McNair. Id maybe even consider dropping Pandur.
I agree with this except dropping Pandur. Im big critic of his but hes still the best we've got.

The dancing must have helped the blood circulation, speeding the recovery :emoticon-0112-wonde
Most probably already know but that flyer has been around for quite a while now; it was first put out a week or two ago.

He had a boot on in the Triton inn Sunday afternoon apparently

Obviously it’s not literally a must win but it really really is. If we can’t beat a team that only have 1 win all season then we genuinely were never good enough and I’ll start believing we might have got a bit lucky this season.

I agree that we need as many familiar players in familiar positions as possible to make up for the back 4.

Pandur
McNair Egan Ajayi Drameh
Slater Amir
Gelhardt Crooks Joseph
McBurnie

Isn’t there anyone in the under-21s we can call up to as a fullback? Noah Wadsworth or Ed Devine?

Was Noah the one who was at Scarborough for a bit?
Did very well for them
He’s 21?
Why not
Or what’s the point of our youth set up
Yeah, I think so. I’ve seen him play a few times for the under-21s and he played for the first team in pre-season. Obviously, it’s throwing him in the deep end but he’s older than McCarthy.

Thinking about that, didn't McCarthy come on at full back against Boro away?

No, don't think so. Unfortunately not.
Personally don't think Wadsworth is at that level. Older of the 2 at just turned 21. Just had a one month loan at Scarborough. Maybe if we were absolulety desperate, but seasoned pros out of position like McNair and Slater would be much better options (with say McCarthy from the U21's providing cover for them if needed).
Devine looks promising, but only just turned 19. Just had one month at Guisely. Not ready, ditto above. Similar with Okike, on loan at Hartlepool for rest of the season; hopefully good experience for him; at times he's looked very good, at other times he's been too mistake prone even at academy level.
Ocaya and Cole have both recently stepped up from U18's to U21's, and, Ocaya particularly, looks promising, but nowhere near 1st team yet.

I get your point but Matty Jacob is nowhere near this level either and Rosenior still gave him a chance (and a new contract). In fact, Reading fans don’t think Jacob is even League One level but he would be starting for us right now because of our injury situation. Why not Wadsworth or Devine?

Yeah I keep wondering this myself, Serg keeps saying "I haven't got any full backs" but we've got Okike at Hartlepool atm who we could recall, we've got Ed Devine and we've got Noah Wadsworth.

We named two keepers on the bench not that long ago, instead of naming an U21 outfield player so not sure what the deal is. I know it's a massive step up, but even so, somebody who has played as a full back since they were a kid is going to be at least a little more effective than a player who has never played there before.

I think the two keepers on the bench thing will have been because it was an away game at Portsmouth and only so many people had travelled with the squad. Howard probably joins in with the warm ups every week and always travels as the third keeper so it was easy to name him on the bench. If we were at home I suspect they'd have found a youngster who plays outfield to make up the last bench spot.

I guess he agrees with me that, unfortunately, none of them are at that level (yet?)! :emoticon-0105-wink:

Matty Jacob mentioned as a comparison. From what I've seen, I'd say Jacob is a big step up from any of the youth options atm.

I'd of course love to be proved wrong, but I just don't see it atm. Just my opinion though.
