He just doesn't have the gravitas or personality, maybe he sounded a bit more authoritative speaking in French at Lens. It always appeared to be a gamble of an appointment and the club simply has to play it more safe with the next manager.
SR need to hold their hands up that they have it wrong. That SR won't sack themselves so Will most likely will get the chop. That the football played must be based on training, and this clearly isn't yielding results. Players being played out of position and are they actually playing for the manager now? Also, some players been here for too long and likely not got the fight. Worth a listen, and not too long.
Although my post was very much tongue in cheek, the point I was making was relevant because I don't know what people want. In fairness you've always been pretty consistent about not wanting to be in the PL, but IMO you can't be a decent championship side, playing decent football without being a promotion prospect. To stay in this division you have to be **** without being totally **** or else you risk being relegated. Which is where we are now, but only a small improvement would see us about half way standard. There are a number of teams who have been in this league for quite a while (Bristol City, Stoke, WBA, Middlesbrough etc) without threatening to get promotion but also not being totally ****. They appear to have got the balance that quite a few on here seemed to have wanted. In other words a majority of underwhelming games to counter the times when it all comes together. Stoke and Middlesbrough will have to be careful this season and end up getting promoted. Always a risk if you carelessly achieve a decent standard of football all season. Would the fans be happy with a generally poor team but with a few decent performances? I'm not sure a yo-yo team is the answer either, the misery of relegations outweigh the excitement of promotions IMO. One of the comments about a small club like ours being in the PL is that we've got no hope of winning anything and would only ever achieve mid table mediocrity. But unless the aim is to get promoted then we will be in the same situation as when we were in the PL but only at a much worse standard.
A million times no. His last managerial job was at Aberdeen, albeit on an interim basis. He didn`t take it seriously and treated it like it was a holiday job. I was hoping for some aggression and motivation - all we got was sound bites and feeble jokes.
I remember thinking I was going mad in the Summer transfer threads because I was banging on about needing a striker and people were adamant that we didn’t need one and that we had more than enough attacking options and would walk in goals. It was infuriating. It was so clear that we would struggle to score goals when we only had strikers that have been a year without any form.
Been here too long? I’m struggling to think what players they are referring too. Most of the players have only been with us 2/3 years maximum. McCarthy is the longest but it’s hard to say a Goalkeeper has no fight, he’s just never been any good for a consistent time. And the other is Armstrong who always tries but again, just can’t seem to get it right. I think it’s just a nice way of saying it’s a **** squad,
Mr. Defensive has made things look far worse by playing seven defenders every game. There are goals in this squad.
Technically, Stephens is the longest; joined the club in 2011, and made his debut in 2012. The last link (in the playing squad) to our promotion side.
I can't believe there's still 20 people on here, that want to keep him! The players have no interest in playing for him, and look like they have completely tuned him out.
The thread was stsrted on 20th September and reflects the fact that 6 weeks have passed. I think yesterday's debacle will have changed a few opinions. I am now thinking Still won't turn things around but the club needs a change beyond the coach. There will be no improvement until the people making the decisions are replaced by people who know what they are doing.
Interesting that it's come from L'Equipe. Reputable publication, but probably more an educated guess and that Still is a known person in France.
Hmm, I'll wait for an Alfie or an Adam announcement, to be honest. And even then, it'll only be met with a meh and a shrug of the shoulders from me. Sport Republic OUT.
