Saints fans need to be a bit more respectful of the opposition. That was a great attacking performance from Derby today. Using Downs, who chested the ball off superbly for our best second half chance, as a fall guy is as ridiculous as blaming Quarshie - who the commentator was saying was a top class talent - every time a ball gets past him. That’s football.

Scienza was excellent today. Manning poor. Losing Stewart really weakened us.

I think the problem is our aspiration is immediate promotion back to the PL and performances have been consistently middling.

So as disrespectful as it appears to Derby, we need to be beating them if we are to achieve our aim.

Not saying you are wrong, but frustration is understandable at this stage.

I absolutely would not be calling for Still's head yet though and think that is premature.

We actually don’t need to be beating them. It is a long season and top 6 comes to teams who are consistent. Last time around the 25 unbeaten had a lot of draws in it too.

I agree with this but we need to make SMS a fortress like back then and dominate teams.

During the 25 match unbeaten run we were largely unchanged playing with a back four, a 6 an 8 and an 8/10
a right and a left attacker and a central striker.

I think Armstrong aside we probably have among the worst striking options in the entire league.

But Armstrong is also terrible as a 9, just luckily for us he happens to be excellent from the wing in the Championship.

Its even worse from the recruitment team because as far as we know they didnt appear to have any intention of signing another striker after Downs, its not like they were going for one and just missed out. Whilst Downs has been worse so far than could have reasonably been expected, his record suggested maybe a back up development striker this season, not the man to pin our hopes on. They really appear to have a massive blind spot for that position, every SR era transfer there has been a failure.

Not one of our strikers can score regular boring goals which are essential to any promotion push, most of our goals have been worldies, set pieces or solo efforts and most of those contain an element of luck even if they look great, but it is not a solid basis for good form and we will continue to stagnate if that is all we can do.

I agree completely.

It’s bad when I watch teams that are tipped for relegation and am jealous of their striking options…

Not at all, you need to up your standards

Derby are a terrible side in this league and we made them look like world beaters.

Shambles of a performance

You see my aspiration for this year isn't necessarily to go up. It is to have a nice season, play some good football and be in with a chance of winning any game.

Derby will think that is a good point as we were in the Premier League last year. We may have been, but as we will all 100% agree, we weren't a Premier League team.

My expectations are to win every game as a fan, but I know it isn't like that. 4 Points from 2 aways is decent. Unbeaten going into the break.

It's not okay at all. Its very poor.

However, we have no divine right to turn up and beat anyone (sadly!), and we aren't doing enough to earn it..
Total agree. Liverpool are PL winners but are not winning every game at the moment. Sheff Utd were playoff contenders but are absolutely dire at the moment. Saints are where the playing quality shows they should be at the moment. I started the game expecting a win, but by the end I was hoping for a draw.
