Two days ago Bayer had 'all the power' when several clubs were in for Xhaka and they thought they could have a bidding war on their hands. Yesterday changed all that and they are now seemingly reduced to posturing in the media while they try to get as much as they can out of us. It's nice to see us ruffling some feathers in Germany this summer and I don't think they like it lol
Hopefully we are closing other deals while this one drags on, would hate for this to be the sole focus of the week
2 weeks today since our last signing so we're definitely "due" something after being spoilt for 2 weeks earlier in end June and early July.
Not sure you can stop people talking now, isn’t it similar to the Bosman craic? You can’t stop them discussing and such, you can hold form on fees etc. This is why Forest pissed off at Spurs, but they just delaying inevitable.
Think of it the other, "traditional" way though. Leverkusen don't want to signal to the market what they're happy to sell at, only to find out that Xhaka doesn't want to join Sunderland and it to fall through. It makes more sense for Leverkusen to let their player explore whether they'd be up for joining interested clubs before they show the market what an acceptable price is.
Forest are pissed off at Spurs because they bid the EXACT amount of his release clause which was supposed to be confidential. Spurs shouldn't have known it, so the agent leaked it. Really they should be pissed off at the agent not Spurs.
Always felt like it would get quiet during the preseason tour, think it'll all pick up now Can see a few going out the door in next 7-10 days and maybe 2 in Then we have a few weeks to get rid of more and bring in more quality
I think a broad consensus of what’s needed will have been agreed before permission to talk was given, it’s in no one’s interest to let a player get an offer they want to pursue if you’re not letting them do so. That just asks for trouble. I think in principle a figure has been agreed and now it’s down to structure of payments and add ons. Either that or they’ve changed their mind about selling but that’s very risky.
Worth pointing out we'll have given Jobe permission to speak to Leverkusen when they were interested, way before we agreed a fee with them (which of course we never did as he chose Dortmund). He even toured their training ground. It's almost just like common courtesy between clubs now it seems.
I still see myself as relatively young (38) and even I remember being on holiday in Spain during the summer as an adult and having to buy YESTERDAYs British papers to catch up on transfer window news. Stuff that was already essentially two days late. The speed of technology advancement and immediacy of information is scary and I think overall not great for mental health.
