I just decided to question your suggestion that Elanga is at peak value. He likely isn't. Your point as a whole assumes that the media reports are accurate and that you know better than Howe, the scouts and recruitment team. However daft that is, you're welcome to your opinion . My own personal preference would be to bring in both Adayemi and Vlahovic for the same price (in transfer fees at least) as Elanga on his own is likely to cost. Shame about the wages (Vlahovic). However, I still trust the judgement of the manager and transfer team that have barely put a foot wrong, and won't be griping about it if we do sign Elanga.
Howe + scouts + recruitment team + exec team = no first team players for three transfer windows and into a fourth. I get we don’t know everything but regardless of any other factors the performance for two years and counting has been ****ing abysmal.
I don’t know better than Howe. But I do think Elangas value right now is peak and we would be mental to pay 55m for him.
It's not abysmal as it's a direct consequence of our having chosen to frontload the investment in preceding windows - a strategy that kept us in the PL, then got us into the CL for the first time since SBR, and has now seen us finally win a cup and then get into the CL again. Over all of the transfer windows combined in the PSR cycle, we have spent as much as we could within those rules and the vast majority of the first team signings made have been an overwhelming success.
Yep. The illegal rules, designed by desperate clubs purely to protect themselves and to hinder us. Oh and the "other factors" include Ashworth and Mitchell. But hey let's just blame Howe for World War 3. We will get there. It will just take time. But the taste of tears will be worth the wait.
So, you think he's reached his ceiling at 23, don't think he's likely to improve under Howe, and believe he won't gain any value from CL exposure? Again, I stress that I would probably be happier with other options. I just think his value is likely to go up further if we do sign him.
He has the potential to be a genuine Toon fan favourite. But if Forest play silly buggers over the price - which they are entitled to, like us with our own top players - then we should just move on to someone else instead.
I think it's quite funny that we suggest that Isak, Bruno, Gordon, Tonali should all command fees of £80m - £150m (or more), but then expect other clubs to give us their best players for less than £40m - £50m.
It's the ideal approach and when some see the money they'll take it. Newcastle will more than likely have an idea who's available for what, so my guess is another player is available for not much more than 45 million.
I’d rather chuck £55m at Arsenal to see if they would sell us Nwaneri. He wants first team football and he’s not getting it in front of Saka.
But we are picking up decent players for decent prices, does Elanga come in as better than Tonali, Gordon, Bruno etc. somewhere between 40-50m is bang on the money for what he’s worth compared to what we’d have spent on the others.
Gossip column now saying we're going for Bakayoko, scoring record is good, but it is the Dutch league, and I'm somewhat wary of that after the Luuk De Jong experience.....also the guy seems to wanna be the next Tupac or something:
Get where you are coming from but they were all bought for £40-60m in the first place, have done consistently well and showed massive signs of improvement/growth under Howe. Elanga by the same toked was bought for £15m a few years ago and has had two decent-ish seasons so even if his value has tripled in that time (Gordon would be £120m, Isak £180m, Tonali £150m etc.) he's worth what we are offering for him (£45m) - not that I would pay that for him personally. If he's worth the suggest £60m then Murphy is worth £50m minimum (taking age into account) and Isak is well north of £200m and maybe close to £250m as both had better seasons than Elanga without question.
News that Chelsea’s parent group has posted losses of £430m, including the vast amount they shoved at Chelsea FC for the women’s team “sale”. Allegations that these rules have remained because the “sneaky six” (Kieran Maguire term) threatened both the league and the “other 14” with a super league franchise. Wow.
Edwards suggesting we've made moves for Elanga, Pedro and Trafford to the tune of £125m+. https://x.com/LukeEdwardsTele/status/1938192989551006083 Think Trafford is 90% nailed on at this point with Burnley signing a new keeper and the midas touch of Romano suggesting its just awaiting the end of the current PSR cycle. Pedro - less sure about, would be a good signing and deputy to Isak but depends what Brighton want for him after his shenanigans at the end of last season. Elanga - we know we've already bid but could we have increased our offer? Only real concern there is that's a fair wedge to spend and not sort out the CB position.
