Yeah what if Acun has a better manager lined up? Steve Cooper, Russell Martin, maybe even someone like Dyche or Bielsa, probably not impossible. These are the kind of appointments he should always have been looking for with the silly amounts of money he’s been spaffing away.

Like buying an F1 team and picking some rookies out of go karting to drive the cars.

With any of those names, I would stick with Selles, we need stability not another summer of churn.... we need a long term approach

Agree, but would you not rather have a 3 year plan with Dyche at the helm? in a hypothetical situation.
i agree with everybody that we need stability and a long term plan and patience, but we need those things with the right man at the helm.
not saying that isnt Selles, like many others i am undecided, but we need to get the right man and stick with him, not just stick with the man in the seat, just cos he is currently in that seat.

No, ta.

I can’t see Selles lasting the season, in fact I can’t see him making it to Christmas, so the churn is almost certainly coming anyway. It makes much more sense to me to cut your losses now and commit to a long term plan with a proven manager at the helm.

fair enough, if we are both still alive in 10 years and both still sad enough to come on here all the time. ,<laugh>
lets check back on the records of the 4 managers mentioned and Selles and see which are in history as most succesful.
i hope its Selles for our sake , but im reasonably confident it wont be.

I mean I can play that game with the manager we sacked last season if you want. I'm not entirely sure we have to wait 10 years to see that the churn of our managers isn't a smart idea.

What makes you so sure? He's not a bad manager, he just has limited tools. I will happily take mid table for a year or 2, then build gradually. This boom or bust approach will kill us eventually

i dont want a churn of managers, i want us to find the right man and stick with him for a few years.
sacking a manager isnt always the mistake, its always about who you replace him with
i said this when Rosie was sacked, i had mixed feelings about it, and it will only become apparent if it was a good or bad decision based on the replacement.
turns out it became a very bad decision as the replacement was ****ing useless.
i wouldnt kick Selles out the door for the sake of it, but if a better manager was available, you upgrade. same as with any player.

And how long do you give that 'better' manager to prove he's better before moving on from him? How do you know who is better or worse than Selles other than judging based on the league they've gotten to manage in?

We’re basically where we were two years ago. A up and coming manager has staved off relegation with a bit of a weird squad and we’ve all breathed a sigh of relief.

There’s no guarantees either way here. Selles could start the season poorly and be out of a job by Oct. We could start next season well and be play offs by Jan.

We could replace him and have to get a new manager (a la Walter) by November or we could replace him and the new man works and we’re flying at Christmas.

My judgement on it all is based on the fact that our squad next season will probably be far more balanced than the end of this (purely due to an end of an injury ravaged squad and a more sensible pre season). Yes, we’ll probably lose some of our better players but I’d trust the manager we have to know what’s needed far more than a new man coming in.

Next season is 100% make or break for the club. Acun cannot (and I don’t think would anyway) continue to chuck money at us in the hope we go up. We have to become a sustainable project and hope to grow slowly. We need to start planning long term and not rely on a flashy big name manager maybe coming in and giving us a rocket up the league. We also cannot keep paying managers off.

Selles has proved enough for me that he can provide that stability. Yes the football was ****, but I think it was needs must. Let’s back a project instead of swinging wildly from one to the next.
