If Selles is sacked it will be even more unjustified than Rosenior. Rosenior came in and steadied the ship by making us harder to beat by significantly increasing the amount of possession we had of the ball. He built on this in his first full season. Selles has come in and steadied the ship by making us harder to beat by making us difficult to play through and everyone knowing their defensive responsibilities. Not sure why he doesn’t get a first full season.
I thought McCann’s sacking was the most unjustified of the lot. I know he was unpopular because of the relegation and the manner in which it happened but he rectified it first time of asking. When he was sacked, we had just beaten Bournemouth away and were 8 points clear of relegation. This was on a shoestring budget with the likes of Andy Cannon, George Moncur and Randell Williams being our summer signings on free transfers. Arveladze came in and we ended up finishing the exact same position in the table that McCann had us in when he was sacked.
I understood the ambition of appointing a better manager than McCann. I could see why he sacked him - although on the other hand I couldn’t even begin to comprehend why he thought Arveladze was the answer.
It would like to say it won’t bring me much joy to revive this thread next season, but it probably will
It's a bloody joke this discussion is taking place, Acun should have pulled Ruben aside after Portsmouth away and told him you're my man! We need to activate whatever recruitment plan is in the background pronto, and that's clearly not happening as Ruben at face value can't to talk with any credibility to any prospective player signing, so yet again we're not getting out the starting blocks fast.
True, and lately a lot of it has been posted by you. If they're not considering sacking Selles, they could/should have immediately said so. Whatever happens now, they've undermined the manager and given potential recruits a(nother) reason to think twice before coming here.
Think you are over stretching the circumstance to be honest . Most players get the first flight out of the country to home or holiday after the last match . We’ve no idea of what is or isn’t happening behind the scenes , I expect the owner to sit with Selles and re visit the season the past errors and what is best going forward . The absolute only shift in that is if Acun had already made his mind up to appoint someone else and those noises haven’t been appearing . Selles would be gone by now IMO . Mind you I once thought Andy Robertson was limited !
By definition that means clubs who finished higher than us rate him higher than we (supposedly) do. At a guess I'd say WBA, QPR, potentially Norwich all considering him.
If Selles' allowed to leave, without pushing for a move, Acun should follow him out the door. Clusterfuck.
i wonder though how much of it is just, club has normal post season review like at every single professional club in the world, how can we turn it into clicks?
its a joke if that comes into it in anyway at all what i have noticed is , he has been slated for possibly reading and reacting to fans wishes on social media, but now it may help in a decision people perceive as the right one its a good thing. whatever your opinion on Selles or any decision made , if any major decision is getting made based on fans polls on social media its shambolic.
By having this forum, there’s the ayes on the left and the nays on the right , and some who flit between to confuse us all ! LOL
Yeah what if Acun has a better manager lined up? Steve Cooper, Russell Martin, maybe even someone like Dyche or Bielsa, probably not impossible. These are the kind of appointments he should always have been looking for with the silly amounts of money he’s been spaffing away. Like buying an F1 team and picking some rookies out of go karting to drive the cars.
