Well said. I made a note of Poniros after he put up a smart performance at Windsor against one of the horses I follow. He ran at Royal Ascot but by then his form thad ailed off and he seemed to have his own ideas. He was then gelded and ran one poor race before being cleared out of Beckett's stable at the HiT sale. By yesterday I'd forgotten that note I made.....dummy.
I think the ground was a massive factor in the Triumph Hurdle and all of Gold Cup day, and I think on anything but the same ground, you’d have a very different story from the day. I thought Lulamba had run a massive race in the triumph, but to me he wasn’t letting himself down on the ground and I thought similar for GDC. It just shows that external factors can play massive roles in big races. Not many of us would have forecast that ground when it’s been so wet all winter.
They really can’t have any complaints about “good to soft” ground, Nass. If anything, Poniros showed real stamina and resolution to win his race, and he may have won more easily with softer ground. Who knows? As regards GDC, he has won on all types of ground and may have got into a better rhythm by leading.

So what are we to believe Nass? We know the going stick is not reliable as it is done hours before racing and not checked during nor after racing

The problem with the ground is that it’s so inconsistent and nearly impossible to view accurately. For instance the times suggest the chase course was riding faster than the hurdles. How could we have known this?
