An annoying review of last Saturday's gig in Southampton...

Sure, a lot of the audience only attend such gigs, of bands from decades ago...and it would be better if they had the inclination, money and time to go and see 'new blood'.
However, this kind of judging, R 'n' R elitism serves nobody well. No matter who you go and see, if it's in a smaller venue, it's keeping the live music industry functioning for the next generation. If you're out there buying tickets, beer, or perhaps lime and soda, and a t shirt or two, you're doing a good thing for acts old and new. Journos suggesting otherwise aren't helping anybody...and they come across as total pricks.

...but she can restrict herself to carry on luggage on flights and can do all of her stage outfits in one wash...which is nice.
What does a CD go for at these fairs ? Charity shops and car boots are between 50p and £1 unless it's the British heart foundation or Oxfam who want a fiver plus
AFAIK, the charity foundations running the shops
have people who are book knowledgeable
(they realise when they have valuable books in
their midst etc) , but not so for music content
(vinyl, CD etc) .
So compared to say record shops in Soho etc
they could be losing significant money.
I once offered to write a computer program for
someone who worked at a charity shop, so they
could scan the bar codes of CDs, and I would do a
trawl on discogs etc to give them a decent price
estimate for each item.

I still haven't had time to listen to the new album. The reviews suggest a slightly more diverse musical approach...
Anyone heard the new Cure album? Lots of mates telling me how good it sounded live.
Not got the album but watched the live stream on YouTube Friday night , I foundit a bit n miss but overall good , also the concert on BBC 2 lastnight ,what a back catalogue they have

Of course the only song the radio have played actually recorded by Quincy that I have heard today played in tribute has been Ai No Corrida written of course by Chaz Jankel !

An enjoyable evening. A hastily arranged date, to mark the release of their first new material for some time - a 4 track EP. There's no classic, but 2 decent tracks in there.
All done and finished by 21.45 - it's the new way of things, allowing a club night to be hosted in addition to the gig. I like Dingwalls, it's a good small venue. I was shocked to recall that it's been over a decade since I was last there - to see Captain Sensible (with Paul Gray) and The Glitter Band.
Hard-Fi are a very good outfit and the interplay between band and crowd was really well participated in ans a lot of fun. The crowd continued the chanting from 'Suburban Knights' for some time after the song had finished. If you can get along to the tour, I'd recommend it.

To my eyes it looks like a fabulous day out in the land of porridge oats, raspberries and Buckfast!! If only there was cause for a trip to this magical land...

McBrian's 63rd birthday's on the summer solstice...hit me round the chops with an Arbroath smokie!!

The Pistols, Stranglers & Buzzcocks are coming to Margate too August bank holiday weekend.
Mrs B's Uni' mate lives there and has invited us down for this one. Given no Undertones, Rezillos or Skids, it is definitely the lesser attraction, but it's still a strong possibility. Hotel is booked for Glasgow...let's hope we get tickets....
Mrs B and I will be a couple of leisure (if reduced means) by then, so driving up and stopping with friends in Darlington, Ayr and Wick looks on the cards. Our mates in Wick are probably going to be at this one, too.
