Your Johannson is my Cooper, same reasons, £2m he cost the blunts, £17,500 pw compared to £30,000 for Meslier same age. I don't do knee jerk or scapegoats but will give an opinion if I don't think a player is good enough and think we could get better, just as I will praise one that is having a great run of form.
I said at the start of the season that he was the weak link in our strongest starting 11, I can't think of one positive attribute to his game but can think of many weaknesses, we had the chance to get rid in the summer but the club were too greedy in their valuation. Now comes another big moment, how will he react to his blunder, how will it affect him, thing is, he's not a top keeper who you can see if it's affected him or not because he's always got a mistake in him.
One thing is for sure, he won't get dropped, so against Sheff Utd, the Kop will need to give him all the support they can when he comes out pre kick off, which I'm sure they will.

On the Ipswich forum they were convinced they were going to get their first three points, reality of the PL took its first small bit yesterday

Yeah, we'll give him full backing. He will need it.

I'm quite happy to be critical on here though. <laugh>

They had a good second half against Villa last week but that was just Villa going through the motions, they seemed as though they just had to turn up and it was won, I think a few of them and their minds on Munich a few days later.

It’s no different how our fans or any others in fairness would be. If promoted we’d be deluded for a while thinking we’d make some sort of impact until reality sets in

I'm just watching Villa vs Scum. It's just jogged my memory seeing the Villa team. I suggested buying Matty Cash from Forest when we were in the Championship. I also wanted Martinez from Arsenal to give Meslier competition the summer we were promoted. Martinez has been voted the #1 goalkeeper in the world.I also remember wanting Tyrone Mings on loan from Bournemouth in Bielsa's first season. He went on to play for England. We also should have signed Ollie Watkins on promotion as I mentioned even though the fee was £30 million. We spent the money for Rodrigo instead. A deal that cost us over 25 million as we only received a **** fee when he left.

As for scum, we played them pre-season last year and the midfielder Hannibal looked decent. I wanted him on loan/permanent deal last season. He's just gone to Burnley and looks a very solid signing.

When we signed Gyabi as part of Kalvin Phillips leaving I said we should have tried to get the youngster Cole Palmer as part of the deal instead, even if it was more of the fee.

There's loads that I've mentioned over the years. To say that nobody gives options is wrong.

Makes no difference who anyone wants if the club hasn’t the ambition to make any of it happen

You know your onions emu... but it was me who brought Meslier's god awful goalkeeping to the attention of the sleeping masses. Only saying <laugh>

    He got cousin Jesse sacked!

People have their favourites and don't like to be seen to change their opinion - they defend those players but often also think it's ok to trash the players they don't like. So it's not ok to point out you don't rate Meslier, but it's ok to trash Kalvin Phillips eh Shaks :emoticon-0105-wink:

Seriously Meslier made one of the best saves i've seen him make (that unluckily still resulted in their goal) then has his howler. Not his night. Sadly too many nights aren't his night... In my very most humble of opinions. Will praise him when he does well and hope he does.

Ok so here we have Aski's totally arbitrary Championship Goalkeepers ratings for 2024/25, so far this season. (penalty ratings are based upon career and not just this season though)

I should also mention that for no logical reason I like Meslier. Stats don't support him, but I still think he is hard done by :)

I know usually boor you all with numerous tables and figures, however on this occasion I have taken pity on you all.

I'm not going to explain how anything is worked out, you can interpret the data however you see fit :)

A lot of keepers this season have 100% accuracy for short passes, hence why there are multiple 1 ratings. This could mean they are really good at short passing, or just don't make very many. (in fact only 1 of the 9 with a top rating in short passing has made over 100 completed short passes. Pandur of Hull has made the most with 431)

However the lower the number the better (Highlighted "yellow" is top 10, highlighted "Green" is bottom 10)

keeper stats, especially save stats are tricky... it'd hard to get genuine like for like. It's a bit like when everyone was pointing out that Mes went a crazy amount of shots on target without saving one - it was getting embarrassing but sometimes they're just a run of good shots.

For save stats - % of shots saved is very broad indicator but xg against v actual goals against is the best you can do stats wise.

It's just a guide... but every season i've checked Mes is below average on them. To put that into context some keepers save more than expected, some save less - his is always less than expected, so the argument of whether his good saves outweight the errors? Statswise, at least, they don't.

Rutter ****s about with the ball, loses it and Brennan Johnson scores for Spurs.

Have we missed Georginio at all this season?

I'm responding to Shako saying there is alot of criticism thrown at players/managers but not many solutions thrown out.

I'm just defending myself by giving examples of me criticising players AND giving other options available.

Just for fun I will throw another one in. When Burnley got relegated I wanted Charlie Taylor off them at left back. I was told I was lazy and obsessed with bringing back former players. My reason was that Charlie Taylor was the ONLY full back to put Raphinha in his pocket that season. Not only did he defend well against him but he even pushed him back.

Charlie Taylor is still in the PL with Southampton. He went there as cover but is now first choice. Last season, Kompany wanted rid of Taylor but the deal didn't get done in time. Taylor ended up 1st choice left back. We spent £13 million on Firpo in 2021 instead. He was arguably the worst defender in the PL in back to back seasons and proved injury prone too. Taylor would have been cheaper too.

I'm just saying that I always give options. Historically my options have proven to be the correct move more often than not. Even Kieffer Moore would have probably improved us last year and the year we went down. I'd have taken him for 2 million this summer too as an option off the bench.

liked Rutter but he did that plenty last season

... it's not like for like... but Aaronson has shown industry and Gnonto has stepped up to be main man... he may not have the 'show' but has great technique, good work ethic and a better footballing brain than Rutter. Gotta love them rats.

The stats above are all % based, but I'm not saying how it's worked out as that will give away my patented stats formula ;)

But will also agree of the 6 seasons that Mes has played any part in, 5 of those he's conceded more than what xGA suggests
