Obviously, attacking the media source is a tried and tested tactic to discredit news you don't want to hear. But if it came from another source (except the Guardian of course) I've no doubt it would be attacked in the same manner. In any case, it's not the source but the subject matter that's unpalatable for the gang because they haven't had to deal with criticism of a Labour government before. I can understand that, after all a new government was what everyone had been crying out for and now, after only 8 weeks the authoritarian intentions, the removal of benefits and the cronyism have all surfaced. And it does explain why some of the replies on here are a bit more overemotional than usual. Anyway, talking of the veracious Guardian and not wanting to be obsessed with one media source I've expanded my reading habits. I hope this is more acceptable. https://www.theguardian.com/comment...mer-perks-disconcerting-cash-strapped-britain So it seems that 2 tier Kier being on the gravy train for years can be added to the list, who would have guessed that? Yes, yes I know Owen Jones is an odious little prick but he's a left winger and it's in the Guardian, so I feel it's the sort of thing that people will believe and not try to make out it's a lie. And remember don't take the bait mate, it's all Trolleybollocks in that Guardian.
Everything is lurid sensation with you, isn't it? I would have been more impressed if you had answered my repeated question: How is it two-tier policing when the same outcomes happened in Ely, Cardiff, last year and that was a white riot as happened in the Eastern European disorder a few weeks before the white racist riots? As to this latest lot, you make the mistake of thinking the left wing people here like Keir Starmer. We don't. Do we like him more than the INEPT Tory government? Yes. Because he might have values I don't agree with, and he maybe got given some fancy spectacles, but I do think he can run the country better than the Lettuce or Rishi Sunak.
"Two tier Kier"? The charged race rioters were rightly put on trail ASAP. It was an intentionally showy display of swift justice - as was the case with the 2011 UK rioting, where 39% of those arrested in London were black - explicitly to get the mass rioting to stop - and it worked. "Rioters convicted after the London riots of 2011 were given much harsher sentences than were previously standard for such crimes. According to research by Laura Jaitman, Brian Bell and Stephen Machin, published in the May 2014 issue of the Economic Journal, this led to a significant drop in riot crimes across the whole of London (not just the riot areas) in the six months after the riots." Royal Economic Society In this recent case, you can't have violent mobs animated by lies burning down occupied buildings all over the country, while the police are unable to protect the public and asylum seekers, due to the sheer amount of riots and toxic online incitement. Action needed to be taken.
Conservative MP Esther McVey has been branded "repugnant" for using a poem about the Holocaust to criticise the government's proposals for tougher rules on outdoor smoking.

Holy ****. I have never really "done" Twitter. I was just reading a story on the BBC and it led me to Musk's X account. What the hell is this? Everything he says is liked and commented on by actual nazis. Actual holocaust deniers just happily basking in his glow. And not getting banned or their posts deleted. I thought the guy was just a loon but he is a full on white nationalist. If he wasn't he would be removing this stuff.
I see that Starmer has been critical of the dynamic pricing system that is being used to sell Oasis tickets, with hints that the law might be changed to prevent this practice from continuing. The way I see it, dynamic pricing is just another example of supply and demand, which is another way consumers get ripped off especially in the travel and tourism industry. In my opinion, if the government stops dynamic pricing for concerts tickets then they really have to look at the price increases for holidays and travel during school holidays, because those industries are doing exactly the same as the ticket sellers, the only difference being that the prices can be seen in advance.
The problem with Dynamic Pricing, or demand-led prices, is that suppliers will simply raise all prices to the highest level, with possibly the occasional 'special offer', if products aren't flying off the shelves.
Look at where he is from. He came from a wealthy background in apartheid era South Africa. This move isn’t exactly a surprise
The fact the the torys felt the need to create a position such as `Minister for Common Sense` speaks volumes regarding their tenure in government.

I was reading a lead article in the "i" regarding the Oasis ticketing fiasco, only to later come across this article regarding the extremely sparsely attended conclusion to England's test match: "When i approached the MCC, they pointed out that tickets for Under-16s were available for £15 and claimed the cheapest adult tickets available to buy without restricted views had been £80. But when i looked at the Lord’s website on Sunday morning, those £80 tickets were not available. Test cricket remains a stronger draw in England than anywhere else in the world and so ticket prices are also higher. But for low-key series such as this, surely there needs to be a rethink for late sales? Lord’s offered entry for £20 for the final day of last year’s Ashes Test but with Test cricket being played more quickly than ever, especially by England’s Bazballers, MCC chief executive Guy Lavender felt moved to admit the club would now look at more dynamic pricing for day four tickets in future years. “It is difficult to dynamically discount tickets in hindsight when thousands of supporters have applied through our ballot process and paid the full price,” Lavender said.' Only to have the stadium 1/6 full. Seems seller's enthusiasm for "dynamic" is for the increases over the base price.
You’re probably right. I did think, after I posted, that if travel companies weren’t allowed to exploit school holiday periods, they would just increase prices for off peak holidays to compensate, but that would also be a gamble for the companies because those who look for cheap off peak breaks abroad, might not bother if the price was too high. I would expect companies to put out “if we have to reduce our prices, jobs will be lost” warnings, as that seems to be the first tactic to protect profits.
The Grenfell Inquiry has now been published. I listened to the statements by chair Sir Martin Moore-Bick and his colleagues and I feel sickened and shocked, not just by the horror of the fire itself, but the staggering levels of greed, incompetence, corruption and dishonesty in the construction industry, the emergency services, and in all levels of local and national government which led to this entirely avoidable tragedy. It falls upon Keir Starmer’s government to begin to redress the shocking mess and begin to give the victims and their families some justice.
