So encouraging to get a point after the first 15 minutes on Saturday, but still feel Cifuentes needs to work out his best starting eleven with this set of players, and get the balance right so we aren't completely exposed at the back, or leaving a line striker up front all by himself for the match. Our opponents are starting their second year in the Championship, having won League 1 in the 2022/23 season. Last season they survived by one place and one point, so finished 21st with 51 points. Their top scorer last season was Morgan Whitaker with 17 goals, with the top scorer from the previous two seasons in League One, Ryan Hardie, scoring 12 goals last season in 28 games. Team news and manager comments to go up when on the official, enjoy if you will make it to HQ, and as always...COME ON YOU SUPER HOOPSA!!!
Cheers Dave. Hopefully our keeper won’t throw one in his own net this season (I know it was the away game). We need to sort out the defence and defensive midfield. We know this can be done because with largely the same players we did it for the second half of last season, though the influence of Hayden, who went about his work invisibly and effectively, is shown by his absence. Then it looks like we now have attacking midfielders/wingers who can actually create chances which hopefully one of Dykes, Celar or Frey can convert. I think it looks promising, might take a few games to really click in though.
Our Keeper didn't throw one in our own net against Plymouth home or away last season. He palmed a cross away which Albert put in our goal.
Hopefully we can hasten Rooney's departure. I see Critchley has been sacked from Blackpool after only 2 games this season.
This is the kind of zero confidence, poor opponent that we help out with a win. Fingers crossed them days have gone.
Plymouth taken Burnley striker Obafemi on loan just in time to play against us, and still no news on the midfielder who was supposedly having a medical with us 2 days ago !
Read this and thought the Obafemi from Newcastle must be getting on a bit...different player and he looks strong and powerful, albeit not a prolific goal scorer.
Plymouth at home last season added years to my life. Awful night. Think Kelman missed from a yard. Struggling to think of any more players who played for both.
They do seem to be a bit of a bogie team for us. It just makes it even more important to win tomorrow. Huge confidence boost and leaping up the table. Now that Dykes has broken his duck this season, I would love Celar to score
Best I can do is Tim Breacker was their assistant manager. There’ll be one from that era I’ve missed.
I hate games where we’re clear favourites. Score early and it could be a lovely old time but Whittaker against Paal has a Drederick Tatum v Homer Simpson feel to it.
