Yes, and that's why I was asking the question, so we can discuss it. Everyone involved in the decision making is experienced, and there must be a plan behind their actions - it's just that we can only guess what it is. I can't imagine they would undermine the future by getting shot of the promising youth, it seems to me that they must feel that those players aren't promising enough and are moved on, or that we simply don't need them at the moment and a loan is the best plan for them. Is there a risk that we might be left a little short? It seems possible, but I'm not involved behind the scenes so I don't know for sure, and I'll accept their assessment until it's proven wrong.
No one else goes (youth aside) without incomings if we think logically. Frustrating that we haven’t bagged one or 2 additions but it is what it is and we won’t stop trying to get the right player in until the window closes. There was a lot of talk and worry about Slot bringing in a load of players he’s worked with before that wouldn’t be good enough, he hasn’t done that and clearly knows the level that will be required. Still plenty of time to go.
I just think slot is fresh eyes on the squad with no loyalty to any of them and certainly no stake in any young players development thus far. He is only interested in what he can develop himself so he looks at a player and says nope no use for thst in my system.out you go. I'm pretty sure carvalho wants to be a 10 not a lw according to his chatter amd slot commented himself he told the boy to play lw I presume that Hughes has let it be known he's open for business generally and the offers.coming in reflect that. The carvalho money exceeded our value on his presence in our squad and out he went Clark is a player too slow to play lw and there is no lcm role any more so out he goes. Money is negotiated hard. Doak is the right winger who is left footed. Yet again somewhere slot must be saying he has no use for him or whatever so he's out there for anyone to bid on if they meet thr money. A player like koumetio or Williams has had loads of shots at a career and all failed so have to go they are holding up squad and budget. A player like gomez has to commit to the squad. He's got a contract out to 2027 so if he's not willing to be a squaddie under slot (who might not fancy him at all as a cb) then again out he goes. No loyalty to past performance neither man was there And on it will go until the squad is how slot wants it and are the players willing to paly for him. Not a thing wrong with it par se as long as the over all team is actually improving and not just going to end up a mess of inferior players. The crescendo of signings was forecast, in fact promised. So time to deliver.
Yes if the club is working logically then gomez must be replaced. If trent vvd and salah refused deals we then look like a whole new team within 12 months. 10 days of crescendo to see who's actually committed to delivering success.
I didn't mean to be dismissive in saying that's what the forum is for so, if you have, please don't read it that way. I can't possibly guess the reason for letting the youngsters, who may be required in this long season, go or listening to offers for Gomez, possibly Trent and letting them go, or not renewing the 3 main players contracts with some urgency. All of which I deem as not putting us in a position of strength. And yes, it's all taken at face value from what we can see as we have no idea of what's actually happening behind the scenes. No senior players may leave, all contracts will be renewed and we"ll sign one great player. We can only wait and see. With regard to why players are being let go (or whatever the original comment was) etc. I can't come up with anything. If I was pressed for a speculative answer then I would say that we have some new players coming in under the radar.
One of the biggest problems is the fact we have 3 of the mainstays of the team going into the last year of their contracts and that is the fault of the previous regime .
one player who shouldn't be going on loan is Bajcetic much better for us to be able to closely monitor his physical state plus a fit bajcetic will be useful in the Slot formation .
Is there rumours of this happening? Think we can all agree this would be silly, he is at the level required
There was but I think it's a bit previous to say he's actually at the level required just now. I think he's a bit short of it after injury and gamed would help if he is ready. Rumours were he'd go to real sociadad as make weight loan for zubimendi. I honestly think slot is looking purely at what he needs today and anyone who doesn't measure up is on a list to go out either on loan or sale. Is an arne broom. In the end it's his right but I find it naive to think what will be left will cope with the season thats coming. If the squad has 25 in it and he has his chosen project players to develop so be it. If he wants Chambers, koumas and all the others he loans out to grow in value for later sales so be it. But again there's these awkward little rules about hg and club hg thst need to be met
Would make sense as a replacement for Guehi. As for Gomez, back to his London roots, German-speaking manager...
Possible Guehi replacement as Nozzer said although where he's going isn't clear as they've knocked Newcastle back three times.
Turned into a bit of mess from the rumours basically agreed to stay then tried to negotiate a new contract supposedly they cant agree terms. My guess would be he would be saying Liverpool were happy to pay me £x and Sociedad not being able to get close to the figure. Whether we would go back to him now is another matter
So much for loyalty and love of club. He's got 3 years left on contract so he can swing there. Slot has already plainly said he is not coming because he doesn't want to so if slot wants a rodgers/balotelli moment in his first season by all means flip flop on this. Let the player go wherever he likes now
Again it's all rumours but the word was that the club were basically playing on his emotional connection to keep him there. In some ways understandable because they were losing Merino and another, (can't remember his name) and if Zubi left then that was the spine of the team going. When it came to negotiating his new contract, the club weren't offering a much improved deal. Not sure where this will go. Normally I'd say walk away if he's not 100% sold on us, then I think, at this point, beggars can't be choosers
