Sure, that's not in doubt, I just find the obsession with Ray Sissom a bit odd that's all, it has become more of an accusatory stick to beat people with rather than being viewed as a symptom of problems that politicians refuse to resolve.

It's nothing like an obsession, I just see Farage as a racist.

I'm sure people like me were reviled in 1930's Germany for suggesting similar things.

BTW Sunderland Central result just coming in ...

... and its a Labour win.

It's an obsession in that it is used frequently and as a tool rather than any sort of accurate descriptor of a political idea, if you watch enough right wing media you will hear communist a fair bit, Starmer is a secret communist, this guy is a secret communist, that one loves chairman mao and the 50 million dead etc

Just as that is dangerous and fear mongering, I do believe we should be careful not to overuse these sorts of terms that have specific meanings, we may end up diluting them and they can lose their utility. I would argue racist, fascist and anti semitic are already beginning to degrade due to overuse, interestingly for different reasons.

It has nothing to do with the media or anything else ...

... Farage has the smell of a racist all over him in my opinion.

I'm 68 years old mate, I'm not a gullible softy influenced by the media and don't appreciate anyone suggesting I am.

I may be right and Farage is a racist, it's just your opinion that he isn't.

You might be a racist for all I know, the point is, it's not useful to throw it around as an accusation unless you want desensitize people to it. As someone much younger than you, let me tell you, young people have only known this world, their lived experience as young people is happening now.

I couldn't care less what effect my views have on anyone, I'm entitled to my honest opinion and that's what it is.

I think Farage is a racist and he may well be.

I think his party will attract racists and that's been proven to be the case.

When the dust settles I think this election will carry a sub-verdict on Brexit.

Farage has blamed the Tories for failing to get Brexit done which was the big issue last time ...

... people have voted Reform because they feel cheated.

Brexit, in my opinion, was almost entirely based on the same xenophobia Farage has latched onto.

I think people over estimate the impact Brexit has had on voting. I think its due to the sleaze and corruption qguch means voting tory is almost unforgivable

You're right mate and I don't think it's the first thing on people's minds ...

... but I do think Farage represents the feeling that people have been cheated because Brexit hasn't actually been done at all.
