The Tempest V was one of the few aircraft of the time that was capable of catching V1s in a straight line. They perfected a technique of flying alongside them and tipping them over - it was safer than taking them down from behind with cannon-fire as they risked flying through the explosion debris. The V2 flew so fast that it couldn't even be heard until after its impact. Once launched it couldn't be stopped. Luckily, it was not very precise. Its designer, Wehner Von Braun (later to be the chief designer of the Apollo programme -specifically the Saturn V) said that its major flaw was that it landed on the wrong planet. His dream was to put men (Nazi men, tbf) on Mars.

 

Yes but his slogans are easy to understand and prey on my prejudices so he’s definitely got the skills required for the mostly boring and complex task of running the country. I’m very clever.

Sky had some vox pop in Clacton yesterday, and of all the opinions that stood out was some 60-something Karen who looked like she'd spent a lifetime on Lambrusco saying "Yeah, I'll vote for Nigel because he's the ordinary one who's like us". **** me sideways.

 

Vox pops are always going to give you spastic extreme(s) of a debate. But yeah people are that thick. Them immigrants wot are taking our jobs and come ‘ere not to work. Nigel will sort ‘em out.

 

Had Von Braun been given the resources, he had a multi-stage V rocket designed that could have reached the eastern seaboard of the US, including New York and Washington. Had they had time to develop a nuclear warhead for that (not impossible had they had a few more years and Heisenberg had realised his mistake of relying upon heavy water in his design process), then **** knows what may have happened.

Let's just say it's a good thing for the world that German ingenuity in science and engineering has been confined to producing cars and washing machines for the last 80 years.
