Just en route to Istanbul

Any suggestions gratefully received (already visiting most obvious places like Grand Bazaar, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Sultanahmet, and Topkapi Palace)

Eat plenty of street food - cheap and fantastic tastingl Take a sea bus to the Princes Islands; Buyukada is the biggest Island and takes an hour or so to get there but well worth the journey, lots of nice architecture which includes a semi-derelict Greek Orthodox Orphanage, I believe it's the largest wooden structure in the world and is now a World Heritage Site (so might now get some repair). Enjoy!

I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post this but fook it I am anyway. My daughter is going to be in a future episode of “ A place in the sun “ they filmed yesterday so sent me some videos and photos. She said jasmine is exactly the same off camera as on, they got on really well and had a right laugh. We’ve walked past that exact spot they used so many time, it’s a very beautiful white washed town Competa.

Basilica Cistern. It's an underground water filtration place. It used to provide water for the city. It's near Hagia Sophia. We were followed round it by a bloke who offered to take us to his carpet shop to drink tea. We went. He asked if we would look at the carpets but it wasn't a problem if we didn't buy. We would just drink tea and he would practise his English. That's exactly what happened. Some of the the carpets were intricately woven rugs that cost over £600. That was in 1995. He would have taken visa. It was used in From Russia with Love. The Galeta Tower is good. Take a ferry across to the Asian side and walk the streets. It's very different from the other side. Go down to the water side on the far end of the Galata Bridge and try the fish from the small stalls there. Whatever you do, don't stand still too long or you will have someone trying to clean your shoes. My father in law thought it was a freebie and virtually dragged the bloke along as he tried to escape without paying. I gave the bloke some money because it seemed the only way we would get out of it.

Istanbul is really good. Enjoy.

I've just seen the date you posted. You are probably back now! Oh well, next time, perhaps.

how are the vegan food options? Or did you say **** it & order a kebab??
We know what the right ull option is!

extra chilli & garlic please!!!
If you think I’d have said **** it and eaten meat you really don’t know how stubborn I am!

Vegan options have been fine. As usual it just needed a bit of pre planning and negotiation with chefs. No problem really though. (Vegan baklava took some tracking down, but found a great place in Besiktas area)
