Moreover, the Americans are primed to get involved. They hate the Saudis and will challenge them at every turn....they've already had it with the golf....football will be next.

I don't know mate....I can't get interested in golf....did they? I thought they'd reached some kind of compromise to counteract the L1V thing? I could be wrong,of course.

The difference is there was already a huge interest in the league before Sky were involved. The money attracted better players which inevitably improved things but it was a high standard anyway. There were pros and cons to all the Sky money from the start, and that’s still the case now.

The Saudi league is like playing a game of football manager and signing these superstars for a couple of league 2 teams…but with no progression to more competitive leagues. Personally I don’t see any positives at all, they are gaming the system and transfers between Saudi based and Saudi owned clubs will go through the roof, despite what the FA say. This will have a negative on effect to all other “normal” clubs.

There’s not a chance I’ll watch the Saudi league, no matter who signs for them. They will try to form a breakaway league in the next couple of years anyway.

I think it's slightly different in that European clubs are selling Saudi their ****e for way above true market value. The Saudis might be trying to sportswash but there's a fair bit of FFP jiggery pokery going on as well, I'd wager.

I expect they can afford to buy the senate too.

It's how we adapt that model to take the next step. At the moment it's working for Brighton, but there'll come a point where two or three transfers don't work and they're in trouble. We see it all the time with clubs - get promoted, get to the point where they think they're established, spend big money to push on and it all goes pear shaped. Nobody has quite cracked that push on stage yet.

Wonder if we'll have any new players through the door before the Mallorca game.

Not every player tempted by Saudi is ****e. And a question is...if these clubs sell their players to Al Hilal for megadollars....how will they then spend?

If Mbappe goes it'll change the equation I think. Top tier, in his prime.

Hope so marra. To start the season we need back up goalie, left back cover, defensive midfield and at least one, maybe two, Championship ready strikers.

I think Southampton tried to do the same thing last season and it completely backfired.

    Do you not think we have enough left back cover - Cirkin 1st choice / Alese 2 / Huggins 3 / Onien 4 / Gooch 5 ?

Definitely agree with the other positions 2 strikers needed and a specialized defensive midfielder - heard Kamara from rangers is being let leave think he would be good option unsure if he would attract higher interest

Seems as though this Bishop is more less going to be sorted now

Good post mate. One or two have cracked it,....we did in the Reidy years with our 7th place finishes e.g......but only able to sustain it for a very short time...eg Leicester.
As you point out,it's a huge dilemma....how to crack that push on stage...and sustain it!
Begs the question...what is it that separates us from the top 6,7,8 or so when we eventually rejoin the top league?
