Surely we have to accept a bid, before they can offer him anything

I don’t believe they’ve offered £30k a week mind. They couldn’t afford to pay more than £20k a week in wages for Gayle, who’s their highest earner, and the mags are still subsidising about £35k of his wage.

Modern football unfortunately, clubs will put feelers out to agents before even bidding for the player

I trust the way our club is being managed, the recruitment and the way we deal with players. They will be well aware of where the discussions with RS sit currently, and will have formed an opinion of the likely outcome. His injury will no doubt be a central issue.
If we were to shortly sign another ready for this league striker alongside Hemir, then I would expect them to negotiate a transfer of RS somewhere near to their valuation, provided he's injury free, sooner rather than later.
Going into next season, this is not last January, and we have time to cover the position very well. I like Ross,I'd be over the moon for him to stay and commit to us,but he's not in any way irreplaceable.

Thought that they (Stoke) had come out of FFP? How can they afford those sort of wages, it's madness. See you later RossCo!!!

.There is no one who doesn't think he is a very good player. But he didn't sign a contract before ge was injured, and hasnt signed one now. No one knows if the deal is still there, but the club have looked after other injured players recently.

He also has had two bad injuries. The achilles is very bad, though he might well be fine.

Up to him. Can't blame him for chasing cash at 27 with a serious injury still ongoing. But he can't be our top priority if we aren't his second.

Great example, how did I forget that <doh> I do still think it's rare though, I really feel the most likely scenario is that he'll struggle for fitness for the rest of his career and never reach his potential, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out

Didn’t the club withdraw the original contract offer when he got himself injured and are seeing how his injury impacts his game? He was keen to sign on our terms offered previously (after his injury of course).

If he still looks the part in the early season then offer the same terms with a deadline of about a week to sign.

If he doesn’t sign, then look to hopefully bring Semedo or the other striker as first choice. Can’t be keeping his match fitness up if he’s looking to move to Stoke.

So much speculation about this one. We don't know if the offer is still on the table or was taken way when he got injured? Can see and argument for both sides from the club, withdrawing the offer will go against the reputation they are wanting to build with players but keeping it on the table for him if he seemed less than enthusiastic before his injury is risky as he may sign it knowing he is not going to come back like he was?

I think it's still there, I just think the lad isn't exactly jumping to sign it! We have signed Crikin and Hume to new contracts in a few weeks, this has been going on for months!

I think Stewart is one of the best strikers we have had at this club, his all round game is fantastic and we could spend £10-15 million and not replace him. But his attitude has to be questioned at this point its clear he has had his head turned. I still think he will give 100% out on the pitch like.

All those saying no way championship clubs can afford £30k a week, I honestly thought that would be the going rate for clubs best players in this league. What do people reckon our wage ceiling is?

No offence to the lad but that's not exactly the most exciting 10am tweet the club's ever done <laugh>

Many times deals have fallen through because personal terms have not been agreed even though clubs have agreed on the fee.

Thing about the wage, is that if they valued him at £10 mill and get him on a free amd on a 4 year deal, its a saving of £2.5m a year (or 48k pw). 30k per week is much cheaper.

    True,

as I said though the initial "we will pay you X a week" will be discussed prior to putting a bid in. It might not be the full warts and all deal, but agents will know what the offers will be from the Buying club

Clarke is apparently the top earner on (or just under) £20k pw

Equally if it is going to cost the club £10 million to lose him on a free or replace him couldn't we give him a bit extra or a signing on bonus that makes up for the difference between us and Stoke etc...?

We could, but it may set a precedent they don't want. Not saying it's right or wrong, just saying how Stoke might justify their excessive wages.

That the problem, they would probably give it to him if it could be just him. Even if it's just to extend and then sell him. But they don't want the rest starting asking for similar!
