And here I thought I was the only one that saw it! https://not606.com/threads/saints-stuff.313456/page-868#post-16476147
You’ve got to start somewhere and unless you’ve had a glowing playing career, you don’t often get a chance in the premier league. He may well take us down, but If he gets them playing welll and shows a plan and tactical nous then he should be given the chance to take us back up. it maybe cheap, but it’s better than an overhyped former England midfielder
Interesting to see he was marginalised by the other bloke, particularly in that final week. Rather confirms what we all suspected, that Selles was telling him a few home truths.
Hard not to love this after the past year. HOW was jones allowed to continue with a more popular and capable manager watching on. It must have been borderline unbearable for Selles who clearly has a lot of respect for Ralph's abilities.
I've almost got even more respect for him and gratitude that he's still here. Jones coming in with his 'team' must have felt like the end of all the work him and Ralph had done.
I think so, and I think Ankerson and Semmens valued Selles as did Ralph, and perhaps as well as adding some continuity for the squad when that man came in, he may also have been an insurance policy!
Yeah I apologise for doubting him and the club. Their decision making has been so bad that I immediately assumed he was just the cheap option. But he’s a special find. Can tell after just one week.
The Athletic article is pay walled. Does it mention that Selles has told some players that they won’t play for him? Just listened to the Total Saints Podcast and Jacob Tanswell mentioned it.
They *might* not play for him, depending on attitude, fitness etc. Didn’t say which ones, although it’s pretty obvious that there must be issues with the two Croatians. Yes, TSP was good, so handy having Jacob on board.
I wanna hold my hands up. I didn't want Jones to go really, well not until the truly bizarre outcome of the Wolves match! It wasn't because we were playing well as we obviously weren't, it was because we had been pretty awful for a year, and I felt it fair to give him a chance to use the January signings. I also felt that getting yet another new manager in was unlikely to work, teams that do that very rarely succeed in staying up. I just kept thinking that the next match would be different, would be better, but it never came. I feel cheated as all this time we had Selles in the wings! I know it's only been 1 game(not counting the Sheffield Wednesday game) but he has lifted everything about the club, the fans, the players and the coaching team. If I'd have known Selles could have had this impact, I'd have been Jones out a lot sooner! SR clearly have a lot of learning to do, this guy oozes class and he was right under their noses the whole time! I feel even more confident than I normally am, onwards and upwards!
