How long and how effectively do you think I could own gillinghamfc for if I won the euro millions jackpot from a while ago ?
Depends what your plans were. Care to share? Maybe everyone could give their views on what they would do if they owned the club with that money in the bank?
What can you say...166 million, give us some! Would I buy Gillingham FC if I had 166 million? I would probably look at buying a majority share, to prevent any one from ever selling the ground or any part of the club or name, unless it was to the future benefit in the survival of Gillingham club and if it was what the fans wanted. How much would that cost me? TBH I would not want to run the club, so I'd remain a sleeping partner and a fan so to speak. I suppose the problem begins when things go wrong, how do you stop yourself from getting involved.
you could run the club on the interest alone perpetually. Id guess you could get 10% return on that sort of level of capital risk free- 16.6 million a year cash injection.
My plan would be to put the money in a bond or something to make alot of interest, I would buy the stadium and club out right and expand the staium over the summer to create more revenue I would also lower the ticket prices to create a better atmosphere. Obliviously better players would be introduced.
I would actually like to buy Gillingham if I had a lot of money, But I would not want to spend many of millions as it is a death game these days it is the game to go from rich to poor.
I think that is where my plan would differ to yours marcus, if I became a majority share holder, my first focus would be securing the future of the club. Therefore any ticket pricing would not necessarily reduce under my ownership, although I would expect various pricing options to be put on the table along with forecasts for the financial returns for consideration -although if something different in regards to ticket options was not put in front of me, I would probably fire the person responsible! Also in regards to 'better' players - no chance! Hessy would have to work with the team he has got, obviously the future goal would be success but not a guarantee - I like lower league football - lol
By better players I mean hessy will have a higher budget to do things with in reason and on the ticket front I think it would be beneficial on match days to have twice the amount of supporters and get the same for ticket income and due to the higher atendances the will be more income from food and programs as it all adds up. With in a few seasons I would also work on the redevelopment of the ground and include a clock that goes over 90 lol
Trouble is marcus, you would have to completely restructure your season ticket pricing (existing customer base). So twice the attendance does not mean twice the income. In regards to the food you might have a problem, generally I buy my food with my beer, not at the ground - although I did have a beef and ale pie last Saturday, only to soak up some of the alcohol mind down in price and hot for a change. However, I have noticed people are starting to take their own food and beverages in, so as I said you might have a problem - lol Next forget redeveloping the ground, be an absolute nightmare getting any further changes approved around there, with the exception of the BMS. Mind you, we can not half fill the ground at the moment, so I shouldn't bother! As for the clock, good idea - might be an idea to have a proper clock along side a match one as you say that goes over 90 minutes. Also another suggestion, move the dug outs, Hessy can sit in the Medway Stand next to me, I get fed up every week cricking my neck to see what he's up to
Ahhh it all sounds so confussing and fun at the same time, we should do what ebsfleet of some club has done where all the fans run ut and have the final say. That would be cool
O and on the ticket Idea I would just make it alot cheaper next season. Because I reackon it would be better if there were more people in the ground as long as non of them take my seat
