Yep. Certainly. Whatever their failings in the past, someone , or some group are playing an absolute blinder.
I’m not a Sunderland lad but it’s fantastic to see the city’s potential starting to awaken. Long may the collaborations continue.
It all seems to go back to when the current leader of the council took over. A lot of separate plans have been brought together to form an overall strategic plan and vision for the City. It is true that a lot of ideas had been started before he took over but the actual implementation of the plans has been very focused and driven.
I've lived in Sunderland all my life, Monkwearmouth and Roker mostly, and while I am still drawn to the past, the landscape that is emerging from the wreckage is really heartening. There is even good news about the continuation of the Miniature Railway in Roker Park, attention to detail is often just as important as the headline catching projects, and often more so.
That's what it looks like and is great to hear. It often takes someone to drive real change, and see and grasp opportunity. It is so, so easy for a place like Sunderland to have sought out one big Hail Mary project, get it done and say " there you are, we've done something" . The opposite is happening, and I have a feeling they have got the funding in for this just in time. Sunderland already looks different, and will look more so very soon. Tremendous, and I don't live there. It genuinely is, and it will be a virtuous circle IMO. Other good things should follow.
There is a new seafood restaurant opening at Seaburn soon as well. Its along past Little Italy right on the beachfront.
Started to fall to bits from day one same with the NGC. Hope the new developments are an improvement on these award winning eyesores.
Brilliant to see, especially for those of us lived through the grim 80s and 90s down there. If they can do Ayr next I'll be laughing.
It was drone footage of the developments on Vaux and the Riverside, don't know why its been pulled. This one is similar footage....
