Spurs were starting to make in rails out wide. I'm no expert, but by going 5 at the back, it was probably his plan to give our wing backs more freedom, and have a line of defence behind them.
I've said it before, he was in a hiding to nothing when he came here. I don't like our style of play, he's more or less admitted we don't have the personnel to play it but silly individual and for the last 10 minutes yesterday group errors that are costing us. We needed a CB as well as a LB at the start of the season they are still priority
I think at the time it was the right tactic but it didn't work but I don't know why it went so horribly wrong.
I'd love it,love it...... Keegan's little rant and at the moment we are looking like his toon side having to score shed loads because we are going to ship the same, the obvious foul on mes obviously could have altered the outcome but it doesn't cover the absolute schoolboy defending. The niners are looking like it's nailed on for the full takeover very soon...are they going to do that with the wallet open and the bucks ready to be spent, do that in the right areas and we are at times playing some good stuff..... could there be gold in them there hills
We have been in desperate need of a Radebe this season. A true leader on and off the pitch who is reliable, can mop up, and leads by example. Cooper is a poor substitute.
Reading around, it appears the only people in the country that saw it, who didn't think it was a foul on Meslier was the games officials. I would like the ref and the var cheat to explain why they thought there was nothing wrong with the challenge
Genuine question and out of interest. Are you happy with Marsch? Would you have sacked him after the Fulham defeat? Would you keep him now? It’s a hard one, he should and looked like out after the Fulham defeat yet if he’d been the new man in facing Liverpool after the last three games he’d be a hero. I know some feel I’m being harsh but I’m basing my opinions on him over nearly a year in the job. My feelings are well known but after the recent wins and performances I’ve resigned myself to the fact that we won’t be replacing him soon and I respect he’s probably done enough to earn longer in the Job. I won’t be focusing on him being replaced during the break, more so if we have any cash, if the 49ers are going to take full control and are we going to strengthen. The 6 points out of a possible 9 are more than I expected so at least we enter the break in an acceptable position. I don’t want him to fail, I’m not on any I told you so points scoring mission, wins feel great, defeats ruin your day.
I think, in regards to coaching defenders, we need someone used to modern day football and VAR. It needs to be drummed into defenders when to take one for the team and when not to tug on a shirt. Maybe get an ex referee in on a weekly basis going through what you can’t do Bielsa took Cooper to his peak, he is a good championship defender, Llorente and Firpo no amount of coaching is going to improve them. We also need a decent coach to work on Meslier distribution. I’m not saying for a moment we should do similar but didn’t we once send our understudy Keeper to Arsenal for some goalkeeping coaching, just thinking about GK coaches made me remember this
For once I think the MOD analysis summed up the issues yesterday. First goal blatant foul. Individual errors for the others. Not too sure what the coach does about that to be honest. I don’t know whether mes was unsighted for the second or just off balance but you’d expect him to stop that before it gets to Rasmus… all following a limp challenge from coops. 3rd not a great defensive header from coops… I really like Tyler adams but he ball watches on crosses. It’s not the first time 4th was good build up by them but poor tracking and Koch just sold himself embarrassingly. Hey you can pick apart any goal but I see those goals yesterday as being poor individual things. Now the system element is letting sides get in behind us on the flanks and clearly kulesevsky had the freedom of the park in behind struijk. You can argue that if you allow that often enough mistakes by us or good play by the opposition will lead to chances. That said, our expected goals against is the 7th worst in the league, so we’re giving up bottom half of the table amount of chances, but not the worst by any means. For comparison we’re top half for expected goals for. I genuinely think we’re a left back and at least 1 centre half from being a decent side. Still want a striker too but fair play to rod.. two very well taken goals again yesterday
I'm not as sold on Marsch as alot of my posts imply. I do think he is getting the ****ty end of the stick by a majority of fans though so end up defending him quite a bit. Last season we let Bielsa go because the players had just given up. It was embarrassing shipping 4,5,6 goals a game and the players just weren't doing their jobs. I give Marsch a free pass on last season. He did what he had to do by the skin of his teeth. It wasn't pretty but in the end he kept us up. This season has been better. We haven't really been played off the park yet but like yesterday have been undone by individual errors and referee decisions. Saying that, I'm smart enough to know that it's a results based business and after Fulham I didn't think he had a way back with Liverpool away his next game. If he'd lost there he would have gone and it would be a case of he just didn't get the breaks here. Sometimes I just wonder who us fans think we are. We've had 2 seasons back in the PL with limited funds and we expect what? A top 10 finish guaranteed every year? Everton have had 1.6 billion extra in TV money since we have been away and yet we are in and around where they are in the table. I'm pretty content with that. I don't expect a push for the top 6 in the next 5 years. I think the performances under Marsch are good enough to keep us up. Heck, if we cut out some of the errors and become a little more prolific in front of goal we might be good enough to sneak in to 10th place which would be outstanding. 13 or 14 games in to this season I feel the performances have been better than the results suggest so yeah give him until the end of the season.
The style we play is alien to a lot of defenders, something that goes against a lot of what they were taught. To teach it imo you need an intelligent defensive coach who needs to get to grips with it themselves first, someone highly respected in the game as a player, Woodgate fits the bill for me. On a personal level I'd prefer it if we dropped the system but that's unlikely whilst Marsch is here.
Peanuts to the 49ers.500 to buy the club. 500 in the ground. Invest in players and sell at a big profit. There i have sorted it for you.
