Well I have to say I was stunned at that poor 2nd half. I agree with some on here that Mowbray was given a lesson today but in his defence they have a better quality of squad with a lot more experience to choose from. That is a worry for me our lack of genuine experience in the team and lack of physicality in the middle of the park. I don’t quite understand his substitutions it seems quite a scattergun approach at times which seems to make us a lot more disjointed than before the subs. I didnt understand the taking off of Evans he’s not brilliant but he breaks things up and gives the others the ball to pass, keeps us ticking over. To many times we gave the ball away with poor cross field passes which they won and immediately we were back under pressure. I thought Hume did ok but tired 2nd half and maybe Bailey Wright into the back with Onien going to full back. Anyway a tough day a good 1st half but ultimately we were beaten by a better more experienced side who will be close to going up this season. On we go to Luton which will be interesting to see how we react. Time for a large malt or two. Keep the faith lads and lasses .

They had 11 Vincent Kompany' out there in the 2nd half.

Blah blah blah, we are playing without a striker on the pitch, how on earth are we supposed to play effectively as a team, in defence or attack, it certainly is not the manager's fault
To come into the season with only two strkers is simply unforgivable

We were sitting right next to the home dugout today and I saw a different side to the game that I've never really saw before in regard to the manager's view. Mowbray was going off with Hume in the first half about not pushing forward enough and Cirkin in the second. Company saw what he was doing and then with his second half sub and the other wide player just told them to stay out wide and behind the full backs and that was the out ball every time with runners from midfield supporting the main striker. Thought Pritchard didn't have that good a game today and was at fault got not closing down for the cross for the second goal. I would've left Evans on and probably took Dan Neil off instead. Decent 1st half but seriously poor second but it didn't really spoil the grandson's day and he wants to go back!

it's always good to get a view from the dug out. As for Pritchard, it was he that danced his way through about 4 players that lead to the 1st goal getting scored. He was clattered in the first half aswell. I get what you're saying though. But for me, we win 2-1 and it's a different conversation.

How was it 2-0 to us at half time then?

I thought Pritchard didn't offer enough defensively and personally I would've tried swapping him and Embleton over before subbing them. But if we play like we did in the first half and get into the Burnley players faces it would've been a totally different story

Why? when Stewart and Simms will be fit and we will more than likely play 1 striker with 2 playing off him
To avoid the shambles that we have had to endure for the last few months perhaps? Its obvious that teams know we have nothing to hit upfront. Centre half’s are having a day off playing against us at the moment.

Because they both might get injured again and we end up in the same situation we are in now!? I honestly don't get how anyone can defend only having 2 strikers of any real pedigree at the club. I'm not aware of any team ever having done it in the past. The only argument is the one speakman made which is that amad and dajaku can play as a striker. Well, why have we been playing Pritchard and Clarke in that role then?

Do you think we should sign another striker in January?
I would seriously think about sending Simms back to Everton and finding another two loans in January, if that is possible, if not definitely get another one in and send a winger and one or two others out on loan. This squad is a little unbalanced atm., and we are thin on the ground up front, only Stewart impresses tbh.

Ok so we need 3 players.for every position using your logic.

It's just not going to happen imo

I havent read all of this thread., Ive seen reaction over the road. Too lose after being 2 goals up is very disappointing and I understand folk getting upset

But FFS, without Ballard, Alese, Stewart, Gooch and arguably Simms (who Im not really sure about) it was always going to be difficult against a team who were 2 divisions above us

Its the one really bad result we've had so far, there will be more no doubt..Ist half was really good, 2nd half Burnleys experience told ( maybe not to 4 goals !!

Frankly I find some of the over reactions pathetic

But then its just my opinion, haealthy debate is god

No, because its very different getting a left midfielder or a centre back, for example, to fill in at left back compared to getting a midfielder to play as a striker. It's a very specialist position and you should have enough resilience in your team to cover for two strikers getting injured at the same time i.e you need at least 3 strikers.

You think two strikers are enough for a full season's football campaign, you are sadly mistaken
At any level of football , you need more than two strikers
That was when we played 2 up top, we are clearly set up to play 1 striker, therefore you need 1 replacement.

So we buy a third striker,l that when everyone is fit doesn't even make the bench

So a striker is a specialist? Yet a left back isn't?

For years we struggled without a left back and shoehorned anyone and everyone in.

Worked well didn't it

Do you think a game only lasts 45 mins, to keep up the pressing game we were doing for the full 90mins turned out to be impossible
To play at any level with no striker at any level of football is very ,very difficult
It impinges the entire teams play, from defence to attack
