The people with real clout in football, such as Spurs, Man City, Everton, etc, seem to trust KLD/SAFC to take their players, coach them properly and look after them. Those players are happy to come and speak highly of the club when their loan period ends. I think that says a lot more than gossip on the internet.
His job and reckon it’ll be announced today but he’ll not be in the dugout tomorrow evening so I have been told.
This is the dilemma though. Ultimately, increased revenue comes from success on the pitch, and you don't get that if you're always selling your best players.
But if you sell your best players for huge fees that allow you to reinvest in the squad, thus bringing more success without breaking the bank?
Agree with that in principle. I have to say though, I don't think I'd have any players back who we've recently sold. Hume, Power, Maguire, etc. I think we're improving personally.
If it was a done deal over the weekend as reported and he took training the other day too as reported why would he not be in the dugout tomorrow. Surely there is no reason why he wouldn't be
Exactly. Dortmund have, apparently, made over €1 billion doing exactly that and they haven't done too badly on the pitch.
Every club (bar Real Madrid and Man City) is a selling club. Our MO is to find untapped talent, develop them and sell them on. Sort of in an 'economies of scale' way that every time we sell on an asset, some of that money goes into finding new assets that are possibly that but more expensive, or higher in quality. Eventually you are buying players for £10m and selling them for £40m but still sticking to the model Don't get for a second that I'm hoping we sell Stewart, but that is the example I'm using
Brighton, Dortmund, Brentford. There’s only about 6 clubs in world football that don’t have to sell their players if a better club comes knocking
This in a nutshell. We are just at the start of the buying phase of a long term project. I've mentioned before Liverpool sold Coutinio (sp) to Barca and bought Salah and 3 or 4 others for what amounted to his fee, that not only improved the team but also meant they spent next to nothing. Imagine if we had a prime Phillips, we would have sold him for what? £30 million then invested the £30 million in the squad on the next batch of prospects
Bob mate, i find it a bit disingenuous of you if you mix with them, call them thick footy wise behind their backs, but still eat at their table. That said they are owners, that’s why they employ people who do know about football. As for the second part, surely that’s a contradiction, because if the “scum press”, knew how close we were to extinction it would have been headline news for the ****ers
yes this, its a massive cop out to absolve them of blame if there is a defeat. Really liked LJ stepping up literally on the day and taking ownership. Hopefully Mowbray does the same. there's no reason to think he wont
He’s not talking about the owners, he’s talking about some of the fan base and using his knowledge of what goes on in the background
