Bent has told fibs about this on talkSPORT, one week he said he felt that he was being pushed out because we bought Gyan (his replacement for telling the club he was going to Turkey so had to start looking. Then he said the move to Villa came out of the blue one morning and was told to head to Birmingham straight away because sunderland had accepted an offer he then signed that day, then he said players have to stay professional because he knew he was going to Villa but had to give it all in the Tyne Wear Derby playing for Sunderland.The bloke is full of **** and I wouldn't believe him if he told me the time.
Sure he got called up to England squad immediately after signing for Villa & Capello said something like he had become a better player since joining Villa...even tho & sure he had not even played for Villa at that point!
He got his first call up with us mate. I remember SAFC fans in the crowd showing their support for him
Aye I remember Capello being involved, he didn't play him despite scoring for fun for us and by all accounts told him be wouldn't get a chance while playing for a club like SAFC.
To be honest that was when my attitude towards the national team changed, I watch when they actually get to the competition but qualifiers I don't bother with. And even in the finals I'm not that arsed.
If a genie granted me a wish now SAFC win the championship this year but England never win a trophy again then the 3 lions might as well call in for the rest of the tournaments cause there would be no hesitation to condemn them to never winning a trophy again.

He's left every club he's ever played for under a cloud. The whole thing at the time was that he drove to Birmingham and was in a hotel there refusing to cone back and forced the transfer through. The punchline to that us about a year later he was linked with a move to Liverpool and downed tools at Villa trying to force that move through, even though there was nothing to it. Just as he downed tools with us after a rumour that Fenebache were interested in him after his first season with us (and the rumours at the time that he wasn't happy that he'd not been made captain instead of Cattermole, so didn't feel valued). Now he's trying to whitewash his past, even though he can't keep to the same story

he was flirting with a call up with us, scored loads of goals then get the call up.He made it to the world cup squad but missed out on the final cut. He ****ed the club about once, saying he wanted a pay rise or he was away to Turkey so the club agreed because of his contributions. He tried the same stunt again but the club told him to **** off to Turkey. Gyan was his replacement. He didn't go to Turkey so Bruce was left with two very similar players and ended up sticking Welbeck on the wing. He ****ed us about quite a bit
